MrMelbertandGitHub 5ef61fde05 Being drunk makes you a worse surgeon unless you land in the Balmer Peak (also Balmer Peak tweak) (#94674)
## About The Pull Request

1. Balmer Peak voicelines can only trigger if you are of a whimsical
personality
2. If you are drunk, you get worse at surgery (up to 12x worse at 100
drunkness). However if you are within the Balmer peak you are BETTER at
surgery (0.8x).

## Why It's Good For The Game

1. Balmer voicelines are super annoying so I figure it should be
restricted to characters that would say it ICly
2. Being drunk obviously means you're bound to screw up surgery, right?

## Changelog

🆑 Melbert
add: Scientists only say Balmer voicelines if they are whimsical
add: Surgery gets slower if the surgeon is drunk, UNLESS you land in the
Balmer Peak, then it's actually faster.

RikuTheKillerandGitHub 4ee5cb9dcc Allows setting tick_interval on status effects to 0, effectively passing process() straight to tick() (#90248)
## About The Pull Request

Adds STATUS_EFFECT_AUTO_TICK, a define with a value of 0 that just makes
process() call tick() every time.

## Why It's Good For The Game

An unambiguous way to make tick() consistent with process() is quite
nice.
Sometimes you just have a status effect that only needs to run every
0.2s or every 2s. (past cases downstream)
Other times you have a status effect that is reliant on being in sync
with process() (my case downstream that started this PR)

7809f0f501 Introduces 6 New Heretic sideknowledges, 1 new spell to Blade Path. + changes to the Research Tree. (#89169)
## About The Pull Request

Introduces 6 new Heretic Sideknowledges.

**Warren King's Welcome:** Starting side-knowledge, Grants to the
Heretic's id Maints and External Airlock access.

**Phylactery Of Damnation:** T1 Knowledge, located between Imperfect
Ritual and Keykeeper's Burden, creates a bottle that can Siphon a small
quantity of blood from your victim, (they'll still feel a tiny prick).

![potion_red](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/b000300a-2f2c-47f1-9fd3-b9d8e0f4f587)

**Ether Of The Newborn:** T2 knowledge, replaces Curse Of Paralysis slot
in the tree (Inbetween Mark of Madness and Moonlight Amulette).

![potion_green](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/bc45c69f-4a16-4879-b788-661112e35638)

1 use potion, fully restores the inbiber to full health, removes any
sort of affliction, trauma, disease or implant at the cost of knocking the
user out for 1 minute.

**Codex Morbus:** T3 knowledge, located between Caretaker's Refuge and
Ringleader's RIse.

![codex

![Codex Morbius
Final](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/04c8739c-5c65-4246-9408-3cbdbc57a164)

Upgrade of the Codex Cicatrix, draws and siphons runes and essences a
bit faster, can be used on a rune to curse a crewmember, provided their
blood is on the rune or on the Heretic.

**Greaves Of The Prophet:** T3 knowledge, located between Entropic Plume
and Wolves Among Sheep.

![Greaves](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/287b592e-b771-40ed-99b3-25820550d6a0)

They work as magical magboots minus the slowdown; they confer full
immunity to slips (yes, even space lube).

**Rust Sower Grenade:** T2 knowledge, replaces curse of corrosion in the
tree (between Aggressive Spread and Star Blast).

![Rustsower](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/297f045c-38c3-4ed0-9046-52d797610339)

Eldritch grenade, Releases a smoke that rusts all affected turfs, blinds
whoever doesn't have mask protection and utterly annihilates silicons,
mechs, augs and bots.

**New Blade Path Spell: Wolves Among Sheep**

Video Showcase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LsmUiQzpzA

- Briefly transforms the surrounding the heretic into an arena.

- Both The Heretic and Crew members caught inside the spell cannot leave
or change z level until the spell expires.

- The arena is impassable to outsiders.

- Everyone caught inside the spell receives a special buff that makes
them immune to most enviromental hazards and all forms of Crowd Control
while blocking teleportation.

- Non Heretics are granted a temporary Heretic Blade and an antag datum.

- Scoring a critical hit grants the winner the ability to leave the
arena, Critting the heretic fully dissolves the spell.

- Critting yourself doesn't remove the debuff.

- The Heretic receives a heal upon critting someone.

- Breaking a blade while inside the arena will rip off your arm
regardless if you are crew or a Heretic.

- 2 minutes cooldown.

- Replaces Furious Steel as the last spell unlocked pre-ascension.

Lastly as you may have guessed, curses have been completely refactored,
they are now bound to the new item (Codex Morbus), are no longer
empowered by blood but require it as a reagent.

Curse of Corrosion and Paralysis have been rebalanced to be slightly
stronger than they were at their base value now that they can no longer
be empowered.

2 new curses have be introduced.

**Curse Of Indulgence:** tanks the target hunger, makes them a carnivore
and drastically increases their hunger decay rate, lasts 8 minutes.

**Curse Of Transmogrification:** Allows the Heretic to change the
target's Race(minus plasmamen for obvious reasons), lasts until the
Codex Morbus is destroyed.

Lastly the Blade Heretic tree has been shuffled a bit to introduce the
new spell.

Stance Of the Torn Champion has been **TEMPORARILY** Removed, it will
come back in a later PR.

Code by me and Xander

Sprites by INFRARED_BARON and OrcaCora.

Lore tibids by NecromancerAnne.

## Why It's Good For The Game

The following is an atomisation of The Heretic Knowledge Rework I'm
currently working on alongside Edge (Heretic's Grandaddy).

Given the whole PR was probably going to be impossibly big to review; I
asked Melbert If could introduce the new knowledges first, so here we
are.

Do not stress the locations of these knowledges in the tree; While they
do fill what few empty slots we still have, it doesn't change the fact
that the Heretic tree is an incomprehensible mess and will soon be
reworked.

**Warren King's Welcome:**

Not having mantainence access as an antag sucks.

Arguably it sucks even more for Heretics as they are required to find
some place discrete in order to be able to cast their rituals.

It's not unusual for the station to be so crowded, that setting up a
base in space is the only option, the external access helps with that a
little bit.

**Phylactery Of Damnation and Codex Morbus**

Explaining them in the same paragraph as they are intended to be used
together.

Curses might as well not exist in their current state.

The process of cursing a crewmember is way too machineous, annoying, and
nowhere near as affective as simply running to your victim and smacking
it with your blade.

All Curses have now been bundled to the new Codex, they no longer
require X reagents, only a drip of the victim's blood.

That's when the phylactery comes into play.

Victims still feel "a tiny prick" upon being juiced, so beware.

**Ether Of The Newborn:** The point of this knowledge is to serve as a
backup plan to "random bullshittery".

It's not really fun rolling one bad trauma or disease and have it
completely invalidate your Heretic round.

We already have potions that either heal or provide remedies against
wounds/limb loss, the Ether is supposed to be an extreme solution, hence
why it causes a 1 minute sleep upon consumption.

**Greaves Of The Prophet:** Heretic to this day is fairly lacking when
it comes to passive immunities or tools we grant to most of our core
antagonists.

Specifically, for a melee-focused antagonist, a total lack of antislip
is kinda lame, being one of the most common defense tools employed by
the crew against newbie antagonist players.

Given these cannot be concealed unlike the traitor counterpart and how
far down the tree they are, i felt like making them lube resistant was a
unique twist and sensible for what's essentialy our core progression
antagonist.

**Rust Sower Grenade:** directly inspired by the 40k Blight Grenades.

The Rust Sower nades serve a double purpose.

1) They introduce a new form of area Denial available to all heretic
paths.

2) They confer to non Rust Heretics a way to deal with the so hated
Silicon Menace.

I'm of the not-so-unpopular school of thought of "Mechs and Silicons
have had it too good for too long".

A massive chunk of our threat roster gets to this day completely shut
down by mechs.

I feel like it was about time to make everything Inorganic feel afraid
again.

To make it a bit more fair, these grenades have a fairly long detonation
timer and have been given a couple of unique SFX.

**Wolves Among Sheep**

Even after the last batch of Changes, Blade Heretic still felt a bit
uninspired to me.

The path is still essentialy just about running at people and stabbing
them in the face.

While that's part of the appreal, I'd reckon it's still lacking a bit on
the eldritch side of things.

Trapping opponents into an arena when they are forced to either engage
you or betray their friends to escape can create some potentially
interesting story-telling.

It also warps the ,oh, so beloathed stun meta we live in by forcing
participants to resort to lethal weaponry.

Ultimately, this is supposed to be a high risk/high reward spell, if you
trap 5 people arm them with heretic blades, and make them all fully stun
immune, you are likely gonna get lynched.

To free up a slot in the tree I **TEMPORARILY** Removed Stance of the
Torn champion, it will come back in my nextish pr, so don't worry about
it too much.

JacquerelandGitHub 89538067db Remove totally unused blob curse (#89154)
## About The Pull Request

We have a mob called `simple_animal/hostile/curseblob` which was used
only for the `necropolis_curse` status effect.
From the git history, this seems to have been added in a PR merged eight
years ago where the PR author came up with a cool set of curses to apply
to cursed objects and PRed it to the game as a concept to be used later.
Subsequently, nobody used it.

Well, to be more accurate, _two_ things apply the necropolis curse
debuff right now but they only collectively use three of the four
possibilities.
The fourth, which spawns a mob with weird behaviour, is unused and so
rather than spend my time bringing it up to standard I just removed it.
Because this is dead code.

To be quite honest I am not totally certain that `necropolis_curse`
should be a single status effect either and it would plausibly be better
off being two different status effects for the two different sources it
is currently invoked (helbital overdose, and being sacrificed by a
heretic).

**Fun Fact!**
Being sacrificed by a heretic doses you with 1 minute worth of
_Helgrasp_ which spawns a frightening hand to attack you once per
second, and also applies the Necropolis Curse which spawns a frightening
hand to attack you once per ten seconds. This means that if you have
anything in your mob which affects metabolic rate your sacrificial
experience may be somewhat different, as quite a lot of the danger
actually just comes from a chemical in your body.

One of these effects spawns the hands slightly further away than the
other, and you actually spend _2.5 minutes_ in the spooky hand room, so
in that second (longer) half you'll only be tormented by very occasional
spectral groping. Personally I would not do it this way I think.

However rather than removing and replacing it, which would probably have
some kind of aftereffect on the heretic sacrifice minigame that I would
rather make larger changes to, I just touched up some of the code to
avoid single-letter vars and to use a helper proc we already use in
other heretic-related places.

## Why It's Good For The Game

This wasn't maintained, isn't used, and was on our to-do mob conversion
list.

tontyandGitHub e755854af2 Nearsighted severity sources (with unit test) + status_effect/grouped minor rework (#88591)
# About The Pull Request
## Nearsighted Sources
Nearsighted now associates/tracks severity applied by each source.
Previously, nearsighted only used a single variable which had to be
shared by every source, which caused problems for things like scarred
eyes which needed independent behaviour.

This implementation allows sources with different severity levels to
coexist without needing workarounds

There are now two different severity types for nearsightedness:
* Correctable: Can be mitigated with vision correction (like glasses)
* Absolute: Cannot be mitigated from any source, used for scarred eyes

Which can allow nearsighted sources to not be affected by vision
correction.
Also, since there is no more technical conflict between the two quirks,
I've made it so that nearsighted and scarred eye can be selected
together (as a QOL change)

There is also a new unit test for this new behaviour
(nearsighted_effect) that checks application and removal
## status_effect/grouped minor rework
Grouped status effects now have `source_added()` and `source_removed()`
procs, which are called whenever a source is added or removed from the
effect

I did this because the previous implementation was somewhat unwieldy.
Inherited status effects would recieve the _currently existing_ effect
through merge_with_existing, and require them to modify the existing
effect's properties, which is odd and not intuitive to work with (the
proc's `src` was not the existing effect)
It not being called for every source also made users repeat code in
`on_creation()` and `merge_with_existing()` for every source added.

This new interface should prevent repetition and be generally more
intuitive to work with.

# Changelog

🆑
refactor: Nearsighted has been reworked to track severity applied from
each source, as well as allow "non-correctable" nearsightedness (for
things like scarred eyes).
qol: The above being possible now means that you can select the
Nearsighted and Scarred eye quirks together
fix: Any bug that would occur from becoming nearsighted with a scarred
eye should be fixed now
code: status_effect/grouped merging code has been improved (i hope)

MrMelbertandGitHub 3c40876f15 Fix itchy skillchip status effect "Curse of Mundanity", adds unit test for effects set to "Curse of Mundanity" (and missing IDs) (#88240)
## About The Pull Request

Fixes a lot of status effects having the default alert, adds a unit test
to check that status effects don't forget to change it

I chose a test rather than just making the default "no alert" because I
think people making status effects should think about whether it should
have an alert

Also I added a test for effects which did not set an ID because that's
kind of important, I applied the same mindset here to account for
abstract types but admittedly less sold on this one.

6faa37853b Void Heretic Rework: You Can (Not) Heat Up. (#85728)
## About The Pull Request

Reworks most of the Void Heretic kit.

All Void spells now apply a stacking debuff that makes you gradually
colder.

Void Blast has been replaced with a new spell "Void Conduit" and a new
Side knowledge spell, "Void Prison" has been introduced.

Waltz At The End Of Time has been completely overhauled.

Lastly Void Blade has been resprited along with the overlay of Void
Chill, check any of the linked videos to see the new look.

All new sprites have been kindly made by OrcaCora.

## Why It's Good For The Game

Void path is *Supposedly* themed around the cold of space but doesn't
have any tools to live up to the fantasy of being an harbringer of the
Void whose main goal is to freeze the station to an icicle.

Then there's also the issue of Void being utterly underwhelming compared
to his neighbors, Cold is way too easy to treat as a status effect, so
much so, a simple cup of coffee can utterly shutdown the void storm,
which is just unacceptable.

# **Changes**

- **Void Chill**: Is now a stacking debuff, each stack slows movement
speed by a percentage while lowering body temperature, upon reaching the
cap, which is 5 stacks, the victim cannot heat up anymore, all void
Spells apply 1 stack of the debuff, with the exception of the grasp
applying 5 (2 for the mark and 3 for the detonation) and the blade
upgrade applying 2.

**Reasoning**: Void chill currently suffers from being completely
shutdown by sipping tea, coffee or having the COLD_RESIST trait, with
this change you can still negate the damage and the slowdown you get
from being cold but not the slowdown from the debuff itself.

- **Aristocrat's Way**: Now grants no slip on ice and water tiles on
cold or depressurized turfs

**Reasoning:** Since the rework revolves around making Void heretic more
involved in freezing the station, they should be able to move in their
domain without getting punished for it.

- **Void Cloak:** Can now be toggled on and off to make the cloak
visible or invisible; when the cloak is visible it grants low pressure
immunity trait.

**Reasoning:** Not having pressure resistance as a Void Heretic just
sucks, as you are clearly intended to somewhat go into space at some
point; giving it to the cloak is a good compromise since you sacrifice
better protection (***the armor values of the cloak are pitiful***) for
utility.

- **Replaces "Void Blast" with a new spell, "Void Conduit"**.

**Void Conduit:** Opens a gate to the Void; it releases an intermittent
pulse that damages windows and airlocks and applies a stack of void
chill to non heretics, Heretics are granted the low pressure resistance
trait.
**Reasoning**: I like the idea behind Void Blast; unfortunately, the
spell has limited uses if an area isn't already spaced, which is hard to
do considering the current kit of Void Heretic doesn't provide anything
to help in that regard.

I wanted to give Void Heretic a tool to turn any area of their choosing
into their ideal habitat. Not amazing for quick assassinations, good if
you are anticipating a fight or want to simply expand your domain, the
added Trait might seem redundant, but let's not forget that the void
cloak is still a side knowledge, I don't want newbie heretics to space
an area and accidentally killing themselves because of it.

Video Demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhPdj1hIgSI

- **New side knowledge: "Void Prison."**

**Void Prison:** It makes the target invulnerable and unable to do
anything for 10 seconds , when the spell ends, it applies a few stacks
of void chill, cannot be self-cast.

It occupies the same slot of Blood Siphon (inbetween Raw Ritual and Void
Phase.)

Video Demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKZd8aEcZFw

**Reasoning**: Void is technically meant to be an assassination path and
not really apt at tackling multiple opponents, this spell might come
into clutch if you are outnumbered, or simply want some breathing room
from your pursuers.

- **Void Jaunt and Void Pull**

Cooldown respectively reduced to 25 and 30 seconds, down from 30 and 40.

**Reasoning:** I felt that the cooldown on these was a bit too high
overall; as it stands, Void Phase cooldown is twice as long as Ashen
passage, one of the best and arguably most sidepathed spells in the
game.

Granted phase is faster and has more range but I don't think it
justifies its cooldown being this long.

Void pull could also use slightly less cooldown, being the very last
spell you unlock and offering a simple melee knockdown.

- **Seeking Blade:** Now applies 2 stacks of void chill per hit.

**Reasoning:** Seeking blade is a bit underwhelming for being the final
blade upgrade, teleporting to a target you just stunned at melee range
is incredibly niche, now that Void chill is a stacking debuff we can
probably just slap it on the blade itself.

- **Waltz At The End Of Time:** The Heretic becomes weightless and able
to levitate around, (carp movement essentialy).

The heavy storm is no longer bound to the room the heretic is in but is
now an aura around them, this does a few things.

1) Releases a pulse that depressurizes areas, shatters windows, airlocks
and firelocks, and applies a stack of void chill to non heretics, the
passive burn and oxy damage effect has been removed.

2) Grants to the Heretic projectile deflection.

**Reasoning:** Void Has the reputation of having the weakest ascension
in the game, which it's hard to disagree on considering you can
completely neutralize the effects of the storm by simply sipping tea and
how generally little it does overall.

It's also kind of strange that you have this massive Eldritch storm
ravaging the station and for it to have no effects on its atmosphere,
infrastructure, or projectiles whatsoever.

Video Demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_blr20-hgA

ProfakosandGitHub b20c982404 Converts slimes to basic mobs (#82176)
## About The Pull Request

After months of preparation, and further months of work, I am finally
done. Please bear with me, as this is a massive refactor, but I have
already atomized everything I could. This is now ready for review.

General

- The hilbert hotel slimes are now a subtype instead of a varedit.
- The `use_mob_ability` subtree now also accepts non cooldown abilities.
If set_behaviours is set up properly, mobs won't keep continously
triggering it as if it were a 0 second cooldown action. The alternative
would have been turning the slime abilities into cooldown abilities.
- Wrestling off a slime now signs up to the `COMSIG_ATOM_ATTACK_HAND`
signal, instead of being part of attack_hand.
- Adds datum/ai_controller/controller as a fourth, optional argument to
`/datum/ai_behavior/find_hunt_target/valid_dinner()` to make it possible
to access blackboard keys.
- Slimes no longer attack windows if they would accidentally move into
them (when the conditions are met), since random walk behaviour ignores
tiles they can't go in. It was also not worth to keep. Did you know this
was the sole override of `ObjBump()`?
- Examine was made less snowflaky/bespoke. Also added a new element:
`/datum/element/basic_health_examine`, which is a simple bespoke element
that prints out a custom message based on how damaged the basic mob it
is attached to is.
- Slimes only perform knockdown instead of paralysis, as they can attack
more often now, and paralysis is not that fun.
- LAssailant has been removed due being archaic code. To befriend a
slime, you have to spawn a monkey with the slime console, or feed them a
sheet of plasma. Simple grabbing the monkey or stuffing them in
disposals do not work anymore. Slime console spawned monkeys will have a
visible status effect, with pheromones coming off them to make this
clearer.

Actions
- Feeding, reproduction and evolution is no longer a verb.
- Slime feeding is no longer an action button. You have to use right
click, or as previously, mousedrop. Slimes can always unbuckle from mobs
they are attached to.

Hunger

- Instead randomly changing the starvation and max nutrition values
while growing up, evolution costs 200 nutrion. This makes the code more
readable, and behaviour more predictable, while still giving the
intended time between evolving and splitting. As a result, I could also
turn these into defines.
- Added a component that handles doing an effect over time while buckled
to a mob, until the mob dies or you get unbuckled.
- Slimes gained nutrition is no longer randomly multiplied by the damage
config value, but rather gain nutrition equal to twice the damage dealt.
You'll have to eat one monkey to evolve, just as before.
- Slimes do not heal passively. They only heal from eating. It was a
rather miniscule value that did not have much effect.
- Slimes generate electricity from hunger threshold, instead of the
random amount of hunger threshold + 100.

Environment

- Slimes take 15 damage from cold every second, instead of using a
complex formula (that also decreased the damage up to a point?).
- Slimes still heal from burn damage, but this is now set on the damage
coefficient list.
- Slimes instead of getting stunned by the cold, freeze in an ice cube.
BZ instead of setting them unconscious, calls the stasis status effect,
allowing you to safely stash your hungry slimes for later. They also no
longer slow down from the cold, as they are already slowed down by the
damage they get. Conversely they no longer get a speed up from a random
amount of temperature. I could be convinced to readd this either as part
of the basic sensitive component, or a similar one.

AI
- Removed the attacked_stacks system. Slimes will just perform regular
retaliation if you hit them in a harmful manner.
- Slimes now use the pet orders component. They will interrupt their
feeding when given a command by their master.
- Slimes have their own subtrees. I tried to replicate as much as I
could from the old code, dividing ancient code artifacts and intentional
stuff, so there might be some weirdness.
- Slime speech has been almost fully reduced to basic blorbing, as you
can not even understand them anymore, and most of them require the slime
to loop through all of their surroundings.
- Discipline does not have stacks either. Disciplined baby slimes have a
chance to clear their attack and hunt blackboard keys. All slimes will
stop feeding on the target otherwise.
- Since discipline is not a stack, rabidity instead gets removed at a
10% chance per disciplining.
- Slimes faces are a bit more randomly picked now.

## Why It's Good For The Game

- We want to convert all simple animals to basic mobs. Old slime code
was also very strange, and had some systems that have been replicated by
components.
- Slimes fully paralyzing you is not fun at all. Knockdown should give
you a fighting chance when a slime would like to eat you.
- Slimes slow down from the heavy damage they get from the cold, so I
don't think they need extra slowdown, nor do they need to speed up from
warmth, as they are already fast.
- Slimes turning into an icecube instead of becoming paralyzed from the
cold is more fun for the slimes, as they can break out for a few
moments. It is also funny.
- Slimes entering proper stasis from BZ is not just a visual indicator
of a slime that is safe to approach, but also keeps the slimes's hunger
value in check, allowing it to not starve while stopped. They can also
look around and blorble, instead of staring at a black screen, if player
controlled.
- The attack_stack and discipline_stack behaviours were rather
overcomplicated, and the xenobio mains I talked with didn't even know it
was a thing, so I argue it needed simplification.
- The bespoke friendship system of slimes was also too complicated.
Slimes slowly gained levels of trust, and at certain levels commands
costed friendship, and other levels, they did not. The binary friend/not
friend system that everything else in the game uses is much more
sensible.
- Using right click for feeding is much more sensible than using an
action, and then picking someone from a dropdown.
- Slime speech was very soulful but not only did it loop through
everything in sight, you couldn't even understand it unless you spoke
slime. Maybe it can be readded later in a different form.
- Slime's passive healing was miniscule, and having them rely on feeding
is more interesting.

## Changelog

🆑
refactor: Slimes are now basic mobs. Please report any strange
behaviours!
balance: Slimes only stun you for two seconds when they shock you, the
rest of the duration is a knockdown.
balance: Slimes are not stunned from the cold, but rather, get frozen in
a freon icecube. BZ also puts them in complete stasis, instead of making
them unconscious. Their speed is likewise unchanged by temperatures.
balance: Slimes do not passively heal, they instead rely on feeding.
fix: Slimes can use the buckling screen alert to unbuckle and stop
feeding, along with clicking on the mob they are riding

MrMelbertandGitHub d9243d1016 Refactors fire overlays once again to make it not get stuck so often (#81367)
## About The Pull Request

Maybe finally fixes #77701

A big reason why this kept happening is because fire uses standing
overlays. But fire isn't managed by mobs anymore. Meaning in some
situations, fire can cease to exist but the overlay can still be on the
mob. So it gets stuck.

So like, why use standing overlays anymore? We can just hook
`update_overlays` signal.
Isn't that neat.

necromanceranneandGitHub ef52047274 [READY] The Tackleling: Unarmed bonuses and features contribute to tackle success and failure, significant outcome overhaul, among other things (#79721)
## About The Pull Request

### Tackling Outcomes

Tackling now determines success based on outcome categories. These are
derived from the typical attacker/defender roll that would have
previously determined the outcome on its own. A negative roll results in
a negative outcome, a positive roll a positive outcome, and a result of
exactly 0 resulting in a neutral outcome.

The result of your roll are then passed along to the relevant proc to
determine severity. The derived roll is multiplied by 10 (or -10 for the
negative roll to get a positive value to roll with). Then we see if our
final roll fits a severity bracket. Negative outcomes will roll to
determine their outcome, and potentially could roll a less severe
outcome than what our first roll would suggest.

For positive outcomes, the defender's melee armor reduces the severity
of the outcome.
For negative outcomes, the attacker's melee armor improves the potential
outcome and at least prevents more severe backlash. It'll still be
negative, you can't move from a negative outcome to a positive outcome
just from good armor.

Most of the outcomes are fairly similar to the current outcomes, but
with the inclusion of staggering one or both parties to make the
subsequent potential grabs _stickier_, if that makes sense.

Neutral is now a mutual stagger, but also the tackler being left
upright. It's effectively net zero.

### Blocking

Blocking is checked on impact, and results in a neutral outcome if the
defender successfully blocks. This means our tackler isn't too severely
impacted from an unsuccessful tackle

### Additional Changes

Your arms ``unarmed_effectiveness`` now contributes to the attack mod
and defense mod of tackles. For humans tackling humans, this often
results in a net neutral result. But if you have a better arm, or the
tackle target has worse arms, this can alter the outcome significantly.

Any tackler with the trait TRAIT_NOGUNS (like bezerkers, Sleeping Carp
users or the very unlikely chance ninjas are tackling while wearing
their armor) gains a bonus to their tackles.

Any suit that prevents shove knockdowns grants an attack bonus, and not
just riot armor. This now includes Mk.1 Swat suits, the ones from the
SWAT crate in cargo.

Settlers are vulnerable to tackles, much like their dwarf cousins.
They're also just as bad at tackles.

Security lockers come with gripper gloves, and the sec vendor has 5 sets
of gripper gloves as standard items. They also have a +1 skill bonus.
This should encourage people to use tackling a bit more without having
to always seek out the best gear to accomplish the task. (particularly
since security is inherently pretty good at tackling with the outcome
changes).

The HoS gets a pair of gorilla gloves in his garment bag. If he wants
them.

The shove slowdown is now a new status effect, Staggered. This is just
better functionality overall. Any instance of adding the shove slowdown
now makes our target staggered.

## Why It's Good For The Game

Tackling is a bit outdated, to say the least. Not much content has been
added for a while that isn't strictly meme content. With these changes,
tackling should be slightly more nuanced, considering elements such as
unarmed effectiveness, the presence of martial arts, and actually
properly checking block rather than notionally checking block. There is
also more opportunity to protect yourself from tackle outcomes, both
positive and negative.

It also should be a little fairer to be on the receiving end of tackles
if you have taken the time to layer up defenses against it. Attackers
often overwhelmed defenders due to numbers favoring attackers more than
defenders.

Closes some really outdated design that was resulting in some really
bizarre behaviour with regards to layered defenses against attack not
having the same meaning against tackles, if only because it was looking
for the wrong things and not even the correct parts of what it was
looking for. Namely, blocking and shielding.

The inclusion of more gripper gloves and a good outcome from using them
will hopefully incentivize people to consider tacking as a useful tool,
if a bit risky still due to the splat mechanics.

## Changelog
🆑
balance: Judo Joe, archnemesis of Maint Khan, has begun re-airing his
midnight infomercials shilling his extremely expensive Tackle Supreme
Judo Karate Training video tapes. Unable to pass up a 'bargain',
Nanotrasen has purchased these tapes en masse. Tackling techniques have
started to improve, as well as Nanotrasen's tackling instructional
algorithms within tackle gloves.
balance: The outcomes for tackling are more equalized. It isn't as feast
or famine, and should be somewhat more controllable without becoming too
severe.
add: Blocking successfully against a tackle will force the tackle to be
a neutral outcome.
add: Unarmed effectiveness from arms now contributes to attacking with
and defending from tackles.
add: Those who refuse to use firearms (like Sleeping Carp users and
insane unholy berzerkers) are better at tackling others.
add: Riot specialized armor, and not just riot armor, now contributes
meaningfully to tackling effectiveness.
balance: MK.1 Swat Suits, the ones that come in SWAT crates, now
functions similarly to riot armor.
add: Settlers from the outer rims have noticed they aren't very good at
protecting themselves against Judo Joe's clearly discriminatory tackling
techniques.
add: Security lockers come with gripper gloves, security vendors now
sell them as standard items, and the HoS' garment bag now has a pair of
gorilla gloves. Gripper gloves have a positive skill bonus to tackling.
add: Being insane also makes you INSANELY good at tackling but also
INSANELY likely to eat shit on a whiff. DO OR DIE, BITCH.
refactor: Shoving slowdown and all its implementations now use a status
effect, Staggered.

## Why It's Good For The Game
Content, firstly, and moreso being supply department content.

The framework that this implements is a great (preauthorized)
replacement for two systems which are collecting dust: BEPIS and the
gateway. They integrate into this system and it's a direct upgrade.

This adds a way for the players on station to generate materials (if
that remains). The nice part about it is that I can throw balance and
believability to the wind, as unlike its unrelated predecessor VR or
away missions, bitrunning entirely washes its hands of the map and mobs
each reboot.

It offers a very expandable map framework to add content and it's all
fairly well documented.

I'd like to add a feature that represents the idea that jobs don't have
to be mundane and "external" jobs can stay tied to the main gameplay
loop.

MrMelbertandGitHub 835952ccf4 Drunk slurring scales based on how drunk you are (#75459)
## About The Pull Request

The strength of the slurring effect drunkness applies on you now scales
based on how drunk you are.

Being "a little" drunk still changes your saymod, and makes you
occasionally slur your words...

![image](https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/assets/51863163/1b21b359-a1f9-428a-8e10-d2028ac59728)

But being "a lot" drunk kicks it up to 11

![image](https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/assets/51863163/9d593c80-75ff-4d02-8e7c-e48c738154bb)

Additionally, drunk slurring was separated into "generic slurring" and
"drunk slurring", the former which does not scale but less closely
resembles drunkness. Generic slurring is used in places such as
concussions, so this is an added bonus.

As a result of the split, I had to update mind restoration. Now it heals
all types of slurring, which does include cult slurs.

## Why It's Good For The Game

I, and many other people, always found it very annoying when you became
completely illegible from taking one sip of a drink. This seeks to amend
that by making low levels of drunkness still for the most part be
legible and sane. Average drunkness is roughly the same / equal to the
old slurring effect, while "very drunk" is even more illegible and silly
(which I find funny).

This has the added bonus of separating out "drunk slurring" and "generic
slurring", allowing effects to slur your words without going full ham on
drunkness (burping and "huhh"s).

## Changelog

🆑 Melbert
add: When you are drunk, the strength of your slurring now varies based
on how drunk you are. Being "a little drunk" only rarely slurs your
words, being average drunk is the same as the old effect, while being
very drunk now slurs your words even more.
add: Some non-alcohol sources of slurring, such as concussions, now give
"generic slurring" rather than "drunk slurring", which less resemble
being drunk (ie, no burping).
add: Mind restoration now heals ALL slurring, rather than only drunk
slurring (which includes cult / heretic slurring).

MrMelbertandGitHub c3a1f21c1a Converts blindness and nearsightedness to status effects, scratches some VERY dumb blindness handling that resulted in mobs becoming "incurably" blind (#72267)
## About The Pull Request

- Nearsighted is now a grouped status effect.
- Blindness is now a grouped status effect.
   - Eye handling of blindness has improved.
- When eyes are removed, they now cause you to become blind, rather than
handling it in `update_tint`.
- Being ahealed no longer blinds you for one tick, meaning that black
overlay on aheal is gone.
- Temporary Blindness is now a status effect.
- Both Nearsightedness and Blindness have been exorcised from mob vars
and life chains. This means that we've finally cut 2 procs from life,
`handle_status_effect` and `handle_traits`, and moved both to event
based processing. Wooo optimizations.
- Swapped pacifism status effect to use apply and set helpers.
- Removed an unused admin toggle that disabled welding helmet tint but
also tint from every clothing item and also blindness from losing your
eyes.
- Clothes now generally all blind their mob more consistently.
- Oculine, eye surgery, and sensory restoration are now no longer the
only way to fix blindness from eye damage. If your eyes are healed
through any other means, it will also heal your blindness.
- Some things that made you blind, such as ling blind sting, no longer
just flat made you blind from eye damage forever. They now cause eye
damage directly, which in turn makes you blind from eye damage, as
expected.
- Pacifists can't eyestab anymore. Eyestabs now have a limit on the
amount of blur applied.
- Refactored some `is_x_covered` procs to accept flags rather than have
a lot of arguments for some silly reason.
- Unit tests for blindness.

## Why It's Good For The Game

Blindness was exceptionally poorly handled prior, primarily due to the
fact that it was tied to the mob instead of separated out

On top of that the system put a LOT of faith in proper handling of
blindness on the coder's end which was misplaced evidently. Many places
didn't update or handle blindness correctly, or just let people
perma-blind.

Deferring it to a status effect improves this a lot

## Changelog

🆑 Melbert
refactor: Refactored blindness and nearsightedness. Important to note is
that all mobs are naturally blind until their eyes are actually created.
refactor: Refactored "is covered" procs
fix: Less sources of blindness now cause permanent blindness. Includes
the "Blind" Spell and "Blind Sting" from changelings.
admin: Ahealing someone no longer flashes the blind overlay for 1 tick.
admin: I removed an unused (sort of) inaccessible admin verb that
allowed you to toggle the tint from all welding helmets (and clothing)
(and lack of eyes) in existence, let me know if you want similar back
balance: Changeling "Blind Sting" now causes eye damage (enough to
blind) rather than arbitrarily forcing blindness.
balance: Visionloss virus symptom now causes eye damage (enough to
blind) rather than arbitrarily forcing blindness.
balance: Oculine has been reworked slightly. Prior, Oculine arbitrarily
healed blindness and nearsightedness from eye damage reagrdless of how
damaged the eyes were, and applied blur on success. Now, Oculine just
heals eye damage, and blindness / nearsightedness is restored in the
process. There is now a probability every tick that eye blur is applied
based on how pure the oculine is while healing very damaged eyes.
balance: Pacifists can no longer eyestab.
balance: Any clothing item that covers your eyes contributes to getting
the bonus while sleeping, and to removing temporary blindness faster

- Eye blue is now tracked via status effect.

In converting these over, cleaned up a bit of code relating to some

MrMelbertandGitHub de04b3be80 Kills /obj/shapeshift_holder, replaces it with /datum/status_effect/shapechange_mob, also does a lot of Wabbajack refactoring (#69091)
About The Pull Request

Deletes /obj/shapeshift_holder, replaces it with /datum/status_effect/shapechange_mob
Refactors Heretic worm form into a shapeshift spell
    Refactors Wabbajack, and associated code

Fixes #69117
Fixes #65653
Fixes #59127
Fixes #52786
Why It's Good For The Game

/obj/shapeshift_holder was one of the worst remaining abuses of /obj direct subtypes, so I replaced it with a cool fancy datum.

This also decouples the shapeshifting behavior entirely from the shapeshifting spell. So we have support for shapeshifted mobs not sourced from a spell. Which is neat, we could technically swap Wabbajack to use this in the future.
Changelog

cl Melbert
fix: Wabbajacking a shapeshifted mob no longer runtimes horribly. When a shapeshifted mob is wabbajacked, they'll now be removed from their shapeshift and stunned.
fix: Transforming via a shapeshift should no longer rob you of your hearing / runechat awareness.
fix: Shapeshifting plays nicer with holoparasites.
fix: Being polymorphed from a xeno to a non-xeno correctly makes you a non-xeno
refactor: Refactored shapeshifting, the shapeshift holder is now a status effect instead of an object.
refactor: Heretic worm form is a shapeshift spell now, this might have some minor behavioral changes but should overall be the same.
refactor: Refactored Wabbajack (+ cursed pool). Overall a bit more clean / consistent behavior.

SmArtKarandGitHub 442ef897bc Refactors firestacks into status effects (#66573)
This PR refactors firestacks into two status effects: fire_stacks, which behave like normal firestacks you have right now, and wet_stacks, which are your negative fire stacks right now. This allows for custom fires with custom behaviors and icons to be made.

Some fire related is moved away from species(what the fuck was it even doing there) into these as well.
Oh and I fixed the bug where monkeys on fire had a human fire overlay, why wasn't this fixed already, it's like ancient.

Also changed some related proc names to be snake_case like everything should be.

This allows for custom fire types with custom behaviours, like freezing freon fire or radioactive tritium fire. Removing vars from living and moving them to status effects for modularity is also good.
Nothing to argue about since there's nothing player-facing

This PR is an ode to @Ryll-Ryll, who inspired me to try and find fun, silly things to PR to try and make people smile.
About The Pull Request

Felinids now get a SMALL and SHORT mood debuff when getting sprayed with water. The intent of this PR is not to provide content to grief felinid (flashback to the "Felinids hate water" pr), but rather to provide a funny interaction.

Bonus point (Suggested by Ninja) : Getting sprayed with water interrupts do_after. Felinid climbing on your table ? Pssshttt. Straight in the face.

Why It's Good For The Game

Light-hearted fun and a bit of flavour to felinids.

0f435d5dff Remove hideous inline tab indentation, and bans it in contributing guidelines (#56912)
Done using this command sed -Ei 's/(\s*\S+)\s*\t+/\1 /g' code/**/*.dm

We have countless examples in the codebase with this style gone wrong, and defines and such being on hideously different levels of indentation. Fixing this to keep the alignment involves tainting the blames of code your PR doesn't need to be touching at all. And ultimately, it's hideous.

There are some files that this sed makes uglier. I can fix these when they are pointed out, but I believe this is ultimately for the greater good of readability. I'm more concerned with if any strings relied on this.

Hi codeowners!

This PR lets you post up for high-fives with your buds so you can slap some skin and show off how well you vibe together. To initiate a high-five, simply stand next to another person with a slapper (the *slap emote one) in hand, and hit the offer item button (default G) to let the people adjacent to you know you're available. They'll get an alert that you're offering a high-five, and clicking it will follow through and award you both a small positive moodlet, or they can just walk away and leave you hanging, earning you a negative moodlet.

Is a high-five not enough to show the world how tight your crew is? Double the fun! If whoever initiates the high-five has a slapper in both hands, and the taker has two hands free, you'll go for the mythical high-ten for a louder slap and extra emphasis! Woo!

Ryll RyllandGitHub 0f6496a55c [READY] Adds Medical Wounds: Bamboo Bones and the Skin of Your Teeth (#50558)
About The Pull Request

This PR adds medical wounds, new forms of injuries that people can suffer that cause debilitation and complications, and often require more than what can be found in a medkit to treat. But let's be honest, big complicated walls of text about medical changes make people's eyes glaze over easily- so I created a handy infograph to explain the basics!

Also there's a full guide here!

dreamseeker_2020-04-18_20-42-19.png

The infograph may not be fully up to date with the specifics of the PR's status, but it'll be updated along with major changes so people have something to use as a crash course for familiarizing themselves with how wounds function. I also have another infograph with all 9 of the possible initial wounds coming, and will be up soon. You can also find the longform design doc here with more info on the broad details, including descriptions of treatments: hackmd whee
What this does

There's a lot to cover, but here's the bullet points of the main features and changes:

Getting lots of damage on a limb can result in wounds, with more damage causing worse wounds. These can range from dislocated joints and minor cuts to compound fractures and fourth degree burns, and can affect you in different ways depending on what bodypart they're applied to (namely with broken bones).
You can damage individual bodyparts on clothing (only jumpsuits for now) through the use of lasers and sharp weapons. Bodyparts that reach max damage are considered "shredded" and will not apply any protection for that zone until it is repaired with cloth. If all zones are disabled, the entire piece of clothing is shredded and unwearable until repaired with 3 cloth. Jumpsuits give a small amount of wound protection, and since sharp weapons and lasers generally get extra wound bonuses against bare flesh, even a plain jumpsuit provides decent protection from a few laser shots or scalpel stabs.
Lasers gain a powerful niche versus unarmored/lightly armored carbons! As noted above, lasers can shred clothing and burn away zones of jumpsuits in 2 shots each, after which the target's bare flesh is exposed (barring other clothing), and lasers excel at dealing burn wounds against uncovered skin. Think big, nasty charring!
Bleeding is now totally limb based, and gauze is as well. Bleeding is also 95% cut wound based, meaning sharp weapons make you bleed rather than just having 40+ brute on a limb.
The more wounds and damage you get on a bodypart, the easier it'll be to gain more severe wounds. Wounds are arranged from Moderate, to Severe, to Critical in increasing severity, and you'll generally have to suffer the lesser ones before getting the worse ones.

Above: Someone having an incredibly bad day from bloodloss

dreamseeker_2020-05-04_22-29-29.png
Above: Scars from healed wounds

ShareX_2020-05-15_06-55-20.png
Above: Actual combat involving someone's head getting cracked

Here's a quick, if non-exhaustive, list of things I have left to do before I consider it feature complete

Finish adding treatments for each wound type/severity (mostly surgeries/triage for critical wounds)
Add second winds for bad injuries to give the victim a chance to get away
Flesh out severe & critical injuries in general
Find sprites for the bonesetter, bone gel, and anything else that might be needed
Add the medical items for treating the less severe wounds to the station
Polish code and remove any redundancies I left behind

Quick balance pass to make sure nothing is horribly abuseable

Why It's Good For The Game

Adds a flexible new system for representing damage on carbons with injuries that can be treated in different ways. Moderate wounds from getting toolboxed or sliced with a scalpel can usually be treated by a buddy or even by yourself with the right tools, but getting flayed with a fireaxe or a laser gun emptied into your bare skin may require extra attention or even surgery in bad cases! Also makes laser guns cooler and more like 40k lasguns that can flash fry people (cool!)

This should also make spessmen more resilient and harder to kill outright, while still adding consequences and complications to getting hurt. Wounds aren't immediately fatal, but they can do things like slow down interactions, deal damage over time through infections, and generally make you more fragile until fixed. They can also give you a "second wind" on being applied that gives you a small adrenaline boost (or whatever) to help disengage and escape immediate danger.
Changelog

🆑 Ryll/Shaps
add: Introduces medical wounds, new injuries that can happen to fleshy carbons when they sustain lots of damage on a bodypart. There's quite a lot of change here, but you can read the guide at: https://tgstation13.org/wiki/Guide_to_wounds and an extended changelog is available here: https://hackmd.io/l_FI9b3tSqa_woDadewJXA
add: Introduces scars and temporal scarring! Healing a wound leaves a scar behind that can be seen by examining someone twice rapidly, and if Temporal Scarring is enabled in character prefs, surviving a round with scars will save them to be granted at roundstart another round! Let your body tell stories!
tweak: Bleeding is now fully bodypart-focused, and 95% of bleeding comes from cut wounds from sharp weapons. Gauze is applied on a limb-by-limb basis, and helps staunch bloodflow rather than totally stop it. Notably, you no longer bleed just from having 40+ brute damage on a limb.
del: Organic bodyparts are no longer disabled at maximum damage, but are easier to cause wounds to
add: O2 medkits in emergency lockers have been replaced with new emergency medkits with basic tools for diagnosing and treating wounds and basic damage
tweak: Herapin now rapidly increases bleeding on all open cuts, rather than causing bleeding by itself. The more cuts on the target, the more it will affect them.
tweak: Neckgrab table slams now hit the targeted limb rather than just the head, with a large chance to dislocate or break a bone
tweak: Sharp weapons and burning weapons can now shred zones on jumpsuits, disabling protection on that limb. Damaged clothes can be repaired with cloth.
tweak: Slaughter demons now deal less raw damage, but gain the ability to cause cut wounds, which becomes more powerful with each attack on a humanoid but resets when bloodcrawling.
