[MDB Ignore] Medical larp: Adds the SDSM-35 (an in game brain trauma reference) (#94761)
## About The Pull Request Medbay, the CMO, the Psychologist, (possibly) the Library, and some maint rooms across all maps now have multiple copies of the SDSM-35 This exists as an in game ability to reference what brain traumas do. Removes unused parameter times_fired from mob procs (#94590)
## About The Pull Request What it says on the tin. `times_fired` is the most unused parameter in all mob procs. I say most because there were just 2 cases where it was used - handling breathing - handling heartbeat Besides these 2 cases this parameter did nothing in every proc. Removing it does 2 things - Makes those procs more readable as it now has 1 less parameter that was documented poorly and did nothing - Makes those procs slightly faster as we are passing 1 less variable to its parameter call stack It can easily be substituted with `SSmobs.times_fired` which was its original value anyways ## Changelog 🆑 code: removes an unused parameter `times_fired` from mob life procs. Removes message arg from Hear, free performance (#93020)
## About The Pull Request The first argument of `Hear` is `message`, the message heard OR SO YOU'D THINK Actually the first argument doesn't do anything but get overridden by ALL implementations of `Hear` No other uses as far as I and Ephe can tell. Refactors say modes and custom say verbs. Extends custom say verbs to more situations, forwards more spans. (#92127)
## About The Pull Request Oh man, so this entire pr started because of two things: 1. A kinda hacky fix to #92123 that got closed a good while ago. 2. A borg I know mentioning you can't do custom say verbs over robotic talk. Which subsequently led me down this rabbit hole of say modes and custom say verbs. So! The most wide-reaching thing this does is merge the custom say verb/radio emote logic that used to be specialcased in `compose_message(...)` into `say_quote(...)`, renaming this to `generate_messagepart(...)` with its new functionality. This means things that don't use the exact same chain as living things talking normally can still generate custom say verbs if given that message modifier. Then, we split up say modes into a "can we do this" and "try to do this" check to reduce conflicts (like #92123), and forward more of our data to the latter. This allows us to then edit the say modes to actually make use of that data, and with the previous addition of `generate_messagepart(...)` allow for custom say verbs to be used. In doing this I realized the logging was kind of awkward and all over the place, so we create the new logging helper `log_sayverb_talk(...)` which handles selecting how we should log things based on the given message modifiers. For better or worse I forgot about this pr for a few weeks, so I don't perfectly remember all the details, but those are the big key parts. ## Why It's Good For The Game Fixes #92123. I think custom say verbs are some of the best flavour we have for talking over radio, and any situation benefits from that being possible. It's great to be able to tap your microphone, and it's hilarious for an AI to be able to emote beaming an image directly into the heads of their borgs over robotic talk. The rest is mostly cleanup. |

Telecomms Update: Ability to change existing radio channels and create new ones (#91647)
## About The Pull Request I have added the ability to create and edit station radio channels through the existing telecommunications system. You can change the name of the radio channel and its color. The channel settings are changed and created through the servers (Frequencies Settings)  Here i created my own channel: 1) Add frequency at Receiver (you will not see channel name):  2) Add frequency at Bus (you will not see channel name):  3) Add frequency at Server 4) Add settings for your frequency  5) See the result:  Important Notes: 1) Headsets, radios, and intercoms will not see a change in telecommunications, but will use standard names (Common, Security etc.). 2) There are still reserved names that cannot be used: CentComm, Syndicate, Uplink, CTFs channels 3) Servers must filter frequency for applying settings on them ## Why It's Good For The Game Now telecommunication channels names and colors depends on the settings of the network servers, which makes it more flexible and logical. Custom emotes actually use +|_ emphasis formatting, your own emotes don't trip highlights (#90858)

This felt annoying, especially given I've seen a lot of people try it and have it not work. Add to that that your own emotes would keep getting highlighted, blotting out other people mentioning your highlighted messages, and here's this pr. In this pr we add a few flags to audible/visible messages, `WITH_EMPHASIS_MESSAGE` and `BLOCK_SELF_HIGHLIGHT_MESSAGE`, which respectively apply emphasis formatting and block highlighting the message to oneself. We're doing this with flags because I felt always applying this would be unnecessary. Most audible/visible messages won't need to check for formatting, and quite a lot we *do* want to be highlighted. As such, we apply these flags as need be. For emotes we do this by having `get_message_flags(intentional)`, which applies `BLOCK_SELF_HIGHLIGHT_MESSAGE` based on whether the message is intentional, and on the custom emote subtype applies `WITH_EMPHASIS_MESSAGE`. Because it's not just for _say_ anymore, and already was also used for emote runechats, we rename `say_emphasis(input)` into `apply_message_emphasis(input)`. We additionally move it down to `/atom` from `/atom/movable`, such that visible/audible messages can in fact call it. That resolves our issues. We also apply `BLOCK_SELF_HIGHLIGHT_MESSAGE` to sign language tone messages, as they're essentially a part of speech. <!-- Describe The Pull Request. Please be sure every change is documented or this can delay review and even discourage maintainers from merging your PR! --> ## Why It's Good For The Game Being able to do `+|_` emphasis formatting on your emotes is nice, I've seen a lot of people try it and have it not work. Especially weird given it DOES apply to the runechat message, just not the text chat message. It's annoying when your own emotes trip your own highlights! Like if you have a name highlight, your own emotes getting constantly highlighted would blot out other people talking to you. So having your own emotes not trip it just like your own talking makes that less of a pain. But sometimes emotes are forced, and in that case I think it's better to keep the highlight because it's just like other people's messages information the player might want to be notified of. Generally, I think if it's the player's input it probably shouldn't be highlighted, while if it isn't the player's input it probably should. There's no need for us to ever highlight our own sign language tone messages, because they're essentially a part of our talking. <!-- Argue for the merits of your changes and how they benefit the game, especially if they are controversial and/or far reaching. Fix flaky hard delete related to wound-induced brain traumas (#90751)

Base implementation of /datum/persistent_client (#89449)
## About The Pull Request Converts `/datum/player_details` into `/datum/persistent_client`. Persistent Clients persist across connections. The only time a mob's persistent client will change is if the ckey it's bound to logs into a different mob, or the mob is deleted (duh). Also adds PossessByPlayer() so that transfering mob control is cleaner and makes more immediate sense if you don't know byond-fu. ## Why It's Good For The Game Clients are an abstract representation of a connection that can be dropped at almost any moment so putting things that should be stable to access at any time onto an undying object is ideal. This allows for future expansions like abstracting away client.screen and managing everything cleanly. |

[NO GBP] Renames mob/camera to mob/eye and makes everything follow suit (#87684)
## Why It's Good For The Game Clarity and consistency regarding DM's systems. Internally, `eye` is used for anything that controls the client's view.  How `eye` is used in DM is consistent with how we use the term, so I figured this would add clarity. Being named mob/camera also makes it unclear exactly what it's doing. The name implies that it would function similar to how mob/camera/ai_eye does, but most of the time it's only used as... an eye. Fix the greeting message you get upon becoming an imaginary friend including nulls (#86866)
## About The Pull Request Previously the imaginary friend greeting message would be called on `Login()`, but this meant that it could run before it actually linked the `owner` value, thus putting nulls in the message where the owner's name should've been. This just changes it so `greet()` is only called on `Login()` if there's already an owner linked, otherwise calling it when being attached to an owner. ## Why It's Good For The Game Better if the greeting message actually says whose imaginary friend you are. ## Changelog 🆑 fix: The greeting message imaginary friends get upon becoming one actually includes the owner's name, instead of displaying nothing where it should've been. /🆑 |

## About The Previous Pull Request #85308 reverted by #85929  ~~Causes the round to not start when a player isn't eligible for any jobs at a specific priority level due to runtimes trying to `pick()` from an empty list aborting the entire job assignment stack.~~ (Fixed???? by https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/pull/85947/commits/e0e9f2f430079d4ab7097abe12e75f934131a638) Maybe we should test merge this for a mo just to make sure no more cheeky runtimes pop up before merging. ## About The Pull Request This PR does a couple of minor things: Makes the job debug logging a bit easier to follow. Minorly brings some SSjob code up to code standards, converting proc names to snake_case and doing some otherm is cleanup. Refactored some stuff into different procs, updated some comments. And some major things: Changes the job assignment logic. Old behaviour > Assign dynamic priority roles > Force one Head of Staff (if possible) > Assign all AIs > Assign overflow roles (bugged in 2 ways) > Shuffle the available jobs list once, at the start of the random job assignment loop > Pick and assign random jobs for random players from High prefs down, with a priority on Head of Staff roles > Handle everyone that couldn't be assigned a random job New behaviour > Assign dynamic priority roles > Assign all Head of Staff roles to players with High prefs > If no Head of Staff was made in the above way, force one Head of Staff (if possible) > Assign all AIs > Assign overflow roles (fixed) > Prioritise and fill unfilled head roles at each job priority pref level, from High prefs down. > Build a list of all jobs that each unassigned player could be eligible for at the above pref level. > Pick a job from that list at random and assign it to the player. > Handle everyone that couldn't be assigned a random job. In reality there should be little impact on overall job assignment, the code changes read more as semantics. For example, the priority check for filling Head slots will have the same candidate pool in both old and new versions, but in the new version we're more clearly saying that Heads are important and we want to prioritise filling them for the sake of round progression even though the outcome in new and old is the same. A key change will lead to an increase in assistants - Overflow fixes. Currently the code block to do early assignments to the Overflow role doesn't work - or works but not as you'd expect. The idea was is that because enabling the Overflow role in the prefs menu is an On/Off toggle that sets the job to High priority when enabled and prevents any other High priority pref, players that have the Overflow role enabled will **always** get it. It's their highest priority job with infinite slots. So we do a pass right at the start to give everyone with the Overflow role enabled that role and save us wasting time later on in random job code giving them that same role but with more work. My hypothesis is that traits and stuff that change the overflow have allowed players to set the "ordinary" overflow role of Assistant to Medium and/or Low priority. Players with the Overflow job pref set to High would be guaranteed to get that role if none of the higher priority Head of Staff/AI/Dynamic roles took over via the random job assignment code giving them their Highest priority role thanks to the infinite job slots of the Overflow. And players with the Overflow job pref set to Medium (an unexpected state, should be disabled or High) would get Assistant if the shuffle step of the available jobs list put Assisstant before any of the other jobs they had prefs enabled for at Medium that weren't already filled, otherwise they'd get another random job. This code is now changed to ignore the priority the player has set when looking for people to fill the overflow role. As long as it **is** enabled, the player will get it unless they're forced into a dynamic ruleset role (AI when malf rolls) or a Head of Staff role due to their other prefs (they have RD set to med or low, and no other player has a Head of Staff at high so they get randomly picked and miss the overflow role). This will increase the number of assistants in shifts where their pref state has Assisstant in the bugged Medium priority, but doesn't change it for bugged Low and not-bugged High/On priority. On the other side of the coin, we have how the random jobs are picked. They're kinda not random, and I noticed this reading the logs then reading the code. The list of available jobs to pick from is randomly shuffled - but only **once**. All players pull from a list of jobs in the same order. This can lead to stacked individual departments if it gets randomly rolled to the start of the list in the shuffle, and completely empty departments if they end up at the end. On high pop shifts this is probably less of an issue. Player prefs add noise to this and as departments at the front fill up, those at the back pick up some of the lower pref players. But have you ever had a shift where there's just like... No fucking sec even though there's tons of players? The logging (before I made changes in this PR) was a bit ass, but my hypothesis there is that sec officer was shuffled right at the end of the random job list, so every other department was filled up before sec officers were picked. To mitigate this, I made the list shuffle every single time the game picks a random available job for the player. This should lead to a more balanced selection of available jobs by avoiding situations where the code is biased towards packing some departments by accident. ## Why It's Good For The Game Overflow fixes mean people who go to their prefs and see the Overflow Role is On will all have the same experience - They will be the Overflow role. More random random job selection should prevent individual departments having a jobs be stacked when it would have otherwise been possible for a more balanced selection but the code unintentially biased random departments to be overstaffed and understaffed each shift. ## Changelog 🆑 fix: Having the Overflow Role set to On will properly ensure you get that role at a High priority as intended by the game code. fix: Job selection is now a little bit more random. ## About The Pull Request
This PR does a couple of minor things:
Makes the job debug logging a bit easier to follow.
Minorly brings some SSjob code up to code standards, converting proc
names to snake_case and doing some otherm is cleanup.
Refactored some stuff into different procs, updated some comments.
And some major things:
Changes the job assignment logic.
Old behaviour
> Assign dynamic priority roles
> Force one Head of Staff (if possible)
> Assign all AIs
> Assign overflow roles (bugged in 2 ways)
> Shuffle the available jobs list once, at the start of the random job
assignment loop
> Pick and assign random jobs for random players from High prefs down,
with a priority on Head of Staff roles
> Handle everyone that couldn't be assigned a random job
New behaviour
> Assign dynamic priority roles
> Assign all Head of Staff roles to players with High prefs
> If no Head of Staff was made in the above way, force one Head of Staff
(if possible)

In reality there should be little impact on overall job assignment, the
code changes read more as semantics. For example, the priority check for
filling Head slots will have the same candidate pool in both old and new
versions, but in the new version we're more clearly saying that Heads
are important and we want to prioritise filling them for the sake of
round progression even though the outcome in new and old is the same.
A key change will lead to an increase in assistants - Overflow fixes.
Currently the code block to do early assignments to the Overflow role
doesn't work - or works but not as you'd expect. The idea was is that
because enabling the Overflow role in the prefs menu is an On/Off toggle
that sets the job to High priority when enabled and prevents any other
High priority pref, players that have the Overflow role enabled will
**always** get it. It's their highest priority job with infinite slots.
So we do a pass right at the start to give everyone with the Overflow
role enabled that role and save us wasting time later on in random job
code giving them that same role but with more work.
The problem is the code for this only assigns the Overflow role to
people with it set to Low priority in their prefs, resulting in log
readouts like:

Where nobody gets pre-assigned the overflow role because their prefs are
all set to the High priority from being toggled... Except wait a second,
some people have it at Medium priority when it should just be a No
Role/High Priority Role toggle?
And herein we meet a problem. My hypothesis is that traits and stuff
that change the overflow have allowed players to set the "ordinary"
overflow role of Assistant to Medium and/or Low priority.
This still shows as enabled in the prefs menu, but leads to an outcome
where a player with assistant enabled is assigned Cook instead.

So players with the Overflow job pref set to Low (an unexpected state,
should be disabled or High) would be guaranteed to get that role if none
of the higher priority Head of Staff/AI/Dynamic roles took over via the
bugged "force overflow for people with the pref enabled" proc.
Players with the Overflow job pref set to High would be guaranteed to
get that role if none of the higher priority Head of Staff/AI/Dynamic
roles took over via the random job assignment code giving them their
Highest priority role thanks to the infinite job slots of the Overflow.
And players with the Overflow job pref set to Medium (an unexpected
state, should be disabled or High) would get Assistant if the shuffle
step of the available jobs list put Assisstant before any of the other
jobs they had prefs enabled for at Medium that weren't already filled,
otherwise they'd get another random job.
This code is now changed to ignore the priority the player has set when
looking for people to fill the overflow role. As long as it **is**
enabled, the player will get it unless they're forced into a dynamic
ruleset role (AI when malf rolls) or a Head of Staff role due to their
other prefs (they have RD set to med or low, and no other player has a
Head of Staff at high so they get randomly picked and miss the overflow
role).
This will increase the number of assistants in shifts where their pref
state has Assisstant in the bugged Medium priority, but doesn't change
it for bugged Low and not-bugged High/On priority.
On the other side of the coin, we have how the random jobs are picked.
They're kinda not random, and I noticed this reading the logs then
reading the code.
The list of available jobs to pick from is randomly shuffled - but only
**once**. All players pull from a list of jobs in the same order. So you
end up with a log block like this:

Wallening [IDB IGNORE] [MDB IGNORE] (#85491)
## What's going on here Kept you waitin huh! This pr resprites most all walls, windows and other "wall adjacent" things to a 3/4th perspective, technical term is "tall" walls (we are very smart). If you're trying to understand the technical details here, much of the "rendering tech" is built off the idea of split-vis. Basically, split a sprite up and render it on adjacent turfs, to prevent seeing "through" walls/doors, and to support seeing "edges" without actually seeing the atom itself. Most of the rest of it is pipelining done to accommodate how icons are cut. ## Path To Merge Almost* all sprites and code is done at this point. There are some things missing both on and off the bounty list, but that will be the case forever unless we force upstream (you guys) to stop adding new shit that doesn't fit the style. I plan on accepting and integrating prs to the current working repo <https://github.com/wall-nerds/wallening> up until a merge, to make contribution simpler and allow things like bounties to close out more easily This pr is quite bulky, even stripping away map changes it's maybe 7000 LOC (We have a few maps that were modified with UpdatePaths, I am also tentatively pring our test map, for future use.) This may inhibit proper review, although that is part of why I am willing to make it despite my perfectionism. Apologies in advance. Due to the perspective shift, a lot of mapping work is going to need to be done at some point. This comes in varying levels of priority. Many wallmounts are offset by hand, some are stuck in the wall/basically cannot be placed on the east/west/north edges of walls (posters), some just don't look great good in their current position. Tests are currently a minor bit yorked, I thought it was more important to get this up then to clean them fully. ## What does it look like?       ## Credits <details> <summary>Historical Mumbojumbo</summary> I am gonna do my best to document how this project came to be. I am operating off third party info and half remembered details, so if I'm wrong please yell at me. This project started sometime in late 2020, as a product of Rohesie trying to integrate and make easier work from Mojave Sun (A recently defunct fallout server) with /tg/. Mojave Sun (Apparently this was LITERALLY JUST infrared baron, that man is insane) was working with tall walls, IE walls that are 48px tall instead of the normal 32. This was I THINK done based off a technical prototype from aao7 proving A it was possible and B it didn't look like dogwater. This alongside oranges begging the art team for 3/4th walls (he meant TGMC style) lead to Rohesie bringing on contributors from general /tg/, including actionninja who would eventually take over as technical lead and Kryson, who would define /tg/'s version of the artstyle. Much of the formative aspects of this project are their work. The project was coming along pretty well for a few months, but ran into serious technical issues with `SIDE_MAP`, a byond map_format that allows for simpler 3/4th rendering. Due to BULLSHIT I will not detail here, the map format caused issues both at random with flickering and heavily with multiz. Concurrent with this, action stepped down after hacking out the rendering tech and starting work on an icon cutter that would allow for simpler icon generation, leaving ninjanomnom to manage the project. Some time passed, and the project stalled out due to the technical issues. Eventually I built a test case for the issues we had with `SIDE_MAP` and convinced lummox jr (byond's developer) to explain how the fuckin thing actually worked. This understanding made the project theoretically possible, but did not resolve the problems with multi-z. Resolving those required a full rework of how rendering like, worked. I (alongside tattle) took over project development from ninjanomnom at this time, and started work on Plane Cube (#69115), which when finished would finally make the project technically feasible. The time between then and now has been slow, progressive work. Many many artists and technical folks have dumped their time into this (as you can see from the credits). I will get into this more below but I would like to explicitly thank (in no particular order) tattle, draco, arcanemusic, actionninja, imaginos, viro and kylerace for keeping the project alive in this time period. Fix imaginary friend trauma and message range (#83590)
## About The Pull Request
So during a previous pr, attaching the imaginary friend to a host and
setting up its preferences were moved from initialization to two
separate procs. The _smite_ was then updated to account for this, but in
the process the brain trauma version was left behind- it even still
tried to add a nonexistent parameter when making a new imaginary friend.
We first fix this by having those two procs be called during
`add_friend(...)`, after finding and assigning a ghost.

This solves our first issue, where this not being called made every
brain trauma imaginary friend get banished to gay baby jail where they
do not have an appearance, cannot move from their spot, cannot be heard,
and emit runtimes constantly.
Testing this brings us to our second issue, where the host couldn't
actually hear their imaginary friend unless they were at most one tile
away, and would get their message starred if not on the exact same tile.
Looking into it, this seemed to be because `Hear(...)` now had a
`message_range = 0` parameter which we don't actually set here.
Upshot! This seems to let us gut the whisper starring code on our side
and just proxy the right message range to `Hear(...)`.
So we gut our code a bit and do just that, and this fixes it.
## Why It's Good For The Game
Fixes #81138.
Fixes imaginary friend brain trauma being non-functional and emitting
runtimes like hell.
Fixes imaginary friends not being audible to their host beyond a one
tile distance.

## About The Pull Request `move_on_shuttle` was a variable that existed on `/mob` despite only ever being used by cameras. This PR downgrades the variable to only exist on `/mob/camera` types, but have the only thing that variable do is add a trait that blocks movement on shuttles if not allowed. This allows us to check the variable without casting to camera, which is what some code was un-necessarily doing. This also retainst the ability to add the trait later on to different mobs who we may not want to be on shuttles that aren't `/mob/camera`. ## Why It's Good For The Game There's no point for this variable to live on `/mob` if all it can do is clog up the VV screen, especially if the current utilization for it is only cameras. Random Name Generation refactor, generate random names based on languages (for species without name lists, like Felinids and Podpeople) (#83021)
## About The Pull Request This PR moves random name generation for species onto their languages. What does this mean? - For species with a predefined name list, such as Lizards and Moths, nothing. - For species without predefined name lists, such as Felinids, their names will now be randomly generated from their language's syllables.   (In the prefs menu:)  Why? - Well, we actually had some dead code that did this. All I did was fix it up and re-enable it. - Generates some pretty believable in-universe names for various languages that are lacking name lists. Obviously defined lists would be preferred, but until they are added, at least. - Moves some stuff off of species, which is always nice. - Also hopefully makes it a tad easier to work with name generation. There's now a standard framework for getting a random name for a mob, and for getting a random name based on a species. Removes Orbit Polling Component, SSpolling improvement (#81748)
When I made SSpolling, jlsnow gave me his blessing to delete the orbit polling component [where you orbit something for 20 seconds before it chooses a ghost from the orbiters] It's only used in a few places like soulstones replacing jobbanned/inactive players, etc. Also upgraded SSpolling; you can now place a little icon on the sides in the chat message, chat message looks a lot nicer, the alert pic and the jump target don't have to be the same anymore, and I made it be able to pre-pick candidates since 90% of the use cases would just want 1 candidate Also prints to chat who the chosen one was Also made slime intelligence potions ask the user for a reason, which will be displayed in the alert poll |

Fixes the typing indicator (#80153)
## About The Pull Request It was very specifically broken by [this commit](https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/pull/80122/commits/94d00aa526f31ed0bc8357f060d2c190d2ad87c7), because it wrongfully changed the logic. Now the typing indicator is back, it's no longer just the thinking indicator. ## Why It's Good For The Game Typing indicator is meant to be there, now it's back! ## About The Pull Request This was another boolean that was used to just manage stuff codeside that really was not accessed _too_ much and is ultimately not useful as a variable on `/mob`. Standardizes Adding Datum Actions into a proc/define (Bonus AI Support) (Bonus Useless Code Cleanup) (#79389)
## About The Pull Request The way we add multiple actions has been very unstandardized, with several implementations of this code doing certain things wrongly (i.e. not nullchecking `ai_controller`), so let's do something in the vein of #74037 and just make one nice big ol' proc that catches a lot of these cases. There are still a few things that simply can't be done here, but this gets the most generic "give my mob some actions and also maybe tell the AI about it" stuff done. This is only useful in cases where we don't ever need to reference the ability ever again when it's added. In an ideal world we would never need to reference the ability again and it would all be self-contained, but this is not an ideal world. However, a lot of the latticework has been built around certain implementations of this behavior making refactoring it just a bit easier. I also did a lot of auditing on `Destroy()` stuff, because `/datum/action`s listen to signals when their parent is `qdel`ing, so we don't need to neither hold nor clear references on our mob's `Destroy()`. This was all cleaned up now because even if we couldn't use `grant_multiple_actions()` (the new proc I add in this PR), it's just not useful at all and will further hinder efforts to implement this new proc. Also also, I noticed in some places (such as megafauna) that we were initializing a lot of datum actions _in nullspace_. We didn't pass the `src` argument to `New()`. I quickly fixed that, as well as got rid of the useless types we had going on. Also also also, I added a define macro to handle some of the cases that melbert was speaking about in his review down below. All you need to do is invoke the define on the typepath, and you should be good to go from there. There's probably a better way to do it, lmk though. we do the whole `do while` thing in order to prevent code leakages. ## Why It's Good For The Game * Very easy to change the implementation. In case we need to do something different in how we add actions or anything like that, we can simply just edit instances where this proc is located. * Standardizes addition behavior. There's a lot of cases like the aforementioned not-null-checking `ai_controller` that we really need to look out for, so having it all in one accessible proc ensures standard behavior. * Reduces copy-pasta. A lot of mobs had their own individual implementation of this, so let's just clean up all those lines of code. ## Changelog 🆑 refactor: The way mobs get specialized actions (like revenants shocking lights or regal rats summoning rats to their side when you slap them) have been modified, please report any bugs. /🆑 This doesn't touch the following case FTR: * Instances where we need to do work on the `/datum/action` after we `Grant()` it, like if we were to edit some variable on the action or if we need to call procs on said action. I don't like how the current code is so reliant on storing a variable to it, but that's a windmill to attack another time. |

Adds a subtle ghost poll (#79105)
## About The Pull Request This makes a new ghost poll system which doesn't give TGUI popups - instead, users are prompted to follow the POI and one of the orbiters is chosen. The old system remains in place, so you can still prompt if you want to. This gives two things: 1. A deadchat notification:  2. A screen alert:  ## Why It's Good For The Game As stated in #76507, popups are pretty annoying. This is halfway between a screen alert with no time limit and an event with more important pings. This is better because: 1. Less popup fatigue 2. You can SEE how many you're competing with 4. DRY ## Changelog 🆑 add: Adds a subtle ghost poll. Adds sanity checking to prefs checks, fixing a bug that can cause emotes to stop displaying intermittently (#76946)
## About The Pull Request This PR adds a bunch of sanity checking to the `prefs.chat_toggles` var accesses. Prefs can be null when client is creating/deleting and this causes a runtime where you might not be able to use emotes.  EDIT: as per suggestion I stopped masking the issue and added stack traces instead. And made them into helper procs to avoid code duplication. For some of these procs it is important that we are able to continue running to get to the end. **A ghost having null prefs should not stop everyone else from hearing/seeing the emote.** So now they will put the stack trace and keep on trucking if that issue occurs. This is the main 'point' of the PR, which has seemingly gotten bogged down in the creation of the two helper procs--apologies. See https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/pull/70404 for essentially the same issue but applied to chat messages. I have gone back and replaced the duplicated code from that to use the new helper procs instead. ## Why It's Good For The Game Anything chat related is a bad place to runtime. Improved Imaginary Friend Smite (#77331)
## About The Pull Request By admin request: - The Imaginary Friend smite now allows you to select "Offer to ghosts" rather than selecting an observer mob manually. - If you select this option you can also select to bulk-accept multiple ghosts at a time, if you want to give people twelve imaginary friends without having to smite them 12 times. This necessitated changing the order of events a little bit so nwo you choose whether they have a randomised appearance before picking a candidate. ## Why It's Good For The Game Makes it easier to drop the entire end of round deadchat into one guy's brain with just a couple of clicks ## Changelog 🆑 admin: The imaginary friend smite now allows selecting "offer to ghosts" instead of having to perform that poll yourself manually. Replaces Upgraded Cybernetic Ears with two new variants (#75931)
## About The Pull Request Adjusts the placement of basic and upgraded cybernetic ears in the research tree and adds two new variants: Whisper-sensitive Cybernetic Ears, which make it slightly easier to hear whispers from a tile away, at the cost of higher vulnerability to flashbangs and other loud noises; and Wall-penetrating Cybernetic Ears, which allow you to 'hear through walls' so to speak, also at the cost of higher vulnerability to loud noises. Basic cybernetic ears are now in basic medical tech node, meaning that medbay can print them roundstart the same as other basic cybernetics. The upgraded cybernetic ears are now unlocked with the other tier 2 cybernetics. The two new ear variants are unlocked with the other tier 3 cybernetic organs, and the luminiscent and welding shield eyes have also been moved there from the cybernetic implants node for consistency reasons. The whisper ears allow you to clearly hear whispers from up to seven tiles away, the same range where you can hear normal speech. The wall-penetrating ears allow you to hear normal speech within seven tiles even through walls. Due to technical limitations, runechat popups do not show up for people you can't see, but the messages will still show up in chat. ## Why It's Good For The Game Currently, upgraded cybernetic ears are very underwhelming compared to other high-tier cybernetic organs. All other high tier organs provide some sort of benefit; even if the benefit is minor like a built-in flashlight, a slightly higher tolerance to alcohol and toxins, or higher tolerance to disgusting food. Refactors mind language holders into non-existent, fixes new languages being deleted on species swap + tests (#76612)
## About The Pull Request This PR refactors mind language holders into non-existence As a result, `update_atom_languages` is no longer necessary Mind-bound languages are transferred via `/mind/proc/transfer_to` Species changing no longer deletes and re-creates the mob's language holder, allowing them to keep any languages they have. Species languages are sourced from `LANGUAGE_SPECIES` now, meaning they are removed when they change species. If the mob is not a human with a species datum, these are effectively just atom level languages. Makes a bunch of unit tests to ensure language transfer over certain events works as intended ## Why It's Good For The Game Mobs with minds having two independent language holders results in a good few bugs, and simply doesn't make sense when we have sources (`LANGUAGE_MIND`). Instead of tracking two language holders, we can simply use sources better and only track one. This means that the language holder you start with is your language holder, period. Nightvision Rework (In the name of color) (#73094)
## About The Pull Request Relies on #72886 for some render relay expansion I use for light_mask stuff. Hello bestie! Night vision pissed me off, so I've come to burn this place to the ground. Two sections to discuss here. First we'll talk about see_in_dark and why I hate it, second we'll discuss the lighting plane and how we brighten it, plus introducing color to the party. ### `see_in_dark` and why it kinda sucks https://www.byond.com/docs/ref/#/mob/var/see_in_dark See in dark lets us control how far away from us a turf can be before we hide it/its contents if it's dark (not got luminosity set) We currently set it semi inconsistently to provide nightvision to mobs. The trouble is stuff that produces light != stuff that sets luminosity. The worst case of this can be seen by walking out of escape on icebox, where you'll see this  Snow draws above the lighting plane, so the snow will intermittently draw, depending on see_in_dark and the luminosity from tracking lights. This would in theory be solvable by modifying the area, but the same problem applies across many things in the codebase. As things currently stand, to be emissive you NEED to have a light on your tile. People are bad at this, and honestly it's a bit much to expect of them. An emissive overlay on a canister shouldn't need an element or something and a list on turfs to manage it. This gets worse when you factor in the patterns I'm using to avoid drawing lights above nothing, which leads to lights that should show, but are misoffset because their parent pixel offsets. It's silly. We do it so we can have things like mesons without just handing out night vision, but even there the effect of just hiding objects and mobs looks baddddddd when moving. It's always bothered me. I'll complain about mesons more later, but really just like, they're too bright as it is. I'm proposing here that rather then manually hiding stuff based off distance from the player, we can instead show/hide using just the lighting plane. This means things like mesons are gonna get dimmer, but that's fine because they suck. It does have some side effects, things like view() on mobs won't hide stuff in darkness, but that's fine because none actually thinks about view like that, I think. Oh and I added a case to prevent examining stuff that's in darkness, and not right next to you when you don't have enough nightvision, to match the old behavior `see_in_dark` gave us. Now I'd like to go on a mild tangent about color, please bare with me ### Color and why `lighting_alpha` REALLY sucks You ever walk around with mesons on when there's a fire going, or an ethereal or firelocks down. You notice how there isn't really much color to our lights? Doesn't that suck? It's because the way we go about brighting lighting is by making everything on the lighting plane transparent. This is fine for brightening things, but it ends up looking kinda crummy in the end and leads to really washed out colors that should be bright. Playing engineer or miner gets fucking depressing. The central idea of this pr, that everything else falls out of, is instead of making the plane more transparent, we can use color matrixes to make things AT LEAST x bright. https://www.byond.com/docs/ref/#/{notes}/color-matrix Brief recap for color matrixes, fully expanded they're a set of 20 different values in a list Units generally scale 0-1 as multipliers, though since it's multiplication in order to make an rgb(1,1,1) pixel fullbright you would need to use 255s. A "unit matrix" for color looks like this: ``` list(1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0 ) ``` The first four rows are how much each r, g, b and a impact r, g, b and well a. So a first row of `(1, 0, 0, 0)` means 1 unit of r results in 1 unit of r. and 0 units of green, blue and alpha, and so on. A first row of `(0, 1, 0, 0)` would make 1 red component into 1 green component, and leave red, blue and alpha alone, shifting any red of whatever it's applied to a green. Using these we can essentially color transform our world. It's a fun tool. But there's more. That last row there doesn't take a variable input like the others. Instead, it ADDS some fraction of 255 to red, green, blue and alpha. So a fifth row of `(1, 0, 0, 0)` would make every pixel as red as it could possibly be. This is what we're going to exploit here. You see all these values accept negative multipliers, so we can lower colors down instead of raising them up! The key idea is using color matrix filters https://www.byond.com/docs/ref/#/{notes}/filters/color to chain these operations together. Pulling alllll the way back, we want to brighten darkness without affecting brighter colors. Lower rgb values are darker, higher ones are brighter. This relationship isn't really linear because of suffering reasons, but it's good enough for this. Let's try chaining some matrixes on the lighting plane, which is bright where fullbright, and dark where dark. Take a list like this ``` list(1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, -0.2, -0.2, -0.2, 0 ) ``` That would darken the lighting a bit, but negative values will get rounded to 0 A subsequent raising by the same amount ``` list(1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0.2, 0.2, 0.2, 0 ) ``` Will essentially threshold our brightness at that value. This ensures we aren't washing out colors when we make things brighter, while leaving higher values unaffected since they basically just had a constant subtracted and then readded. ### But wait, there's more You may have noticed, we gain access to individual color components here. This means not only can we darken and lighten by thresholds, we can COLOR those thresholds. ``` list(1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0.1, 0.2, 0.1, 0 ) ``` Something like the above, if applied with its inverse, would tint the darkness green. The delta between the different scalars will determine how vivid the color is, and the actual value will impact the brightness. Something that's always bothered me about nightvision is it's just greyscale for the most part, there isn't any color to it. There was an old idea of coloring the game plane to match their lenses, but if you've ever played with the colorblind quirk you know that gets headachey really fast. So instead of that, lets color just the darkness that these glasses produce. It provides some reminder that you're wearing them, instead of just being something you forget about while playing, and provides a reason to use flashlights and such since they can give you a clearer, less tinted view of things while retaining the ability to look around things. I've so far applied this pattern to JUST headwear for humans (also those mining wisps) I'm planning on furthering it to mobs that use nightvision, but I wanted to get this up cause I don't wanna pr it the day before the freeze. Mesons are green, sec night vision is red, thermals orange, etc. I think the effect this gives is really really nice. I've tuned most things to work for the station, though mesons works for lavaland for obvious reasons. I've tuned things significantly darker then we have them set currently, since I really hate flat lighting and this system suffers when interacting with it. My goal with these is to give you a rough idea of what's around you, without a good eye for detail. That's the difference between say, mesons, and night vision. One helps you see outlines, the other gives you detail and prevents missing someone in the darkness. It's hard to balance this precisely because of different colored backgrounds (looking at you icebox) More can be done on this front in future but I'm quite happy with things as of now ### **EDIT** I have since expanded to all uses of nightvision, coloring most all of them. Along the way I turned some toggleable nightvision into just one level. Fullbright sucks, and I'd rather just have one "good" value. I've kept it for a few cases, mostly eyes you rip out of mobs. Impacted mobs are nightmares, aliens, zombies, revenants, states and sort of stands. I've done a pass on all mobs and items that impact nightvision and added what I thought was the right level of color to them. This includes stuff like blobs and shuttle control consoles As with glasses much of this was around reducing vision, though I kept it stronger here, since many of these mobs rely on it for engaging with the game <details> <summary> Technical Changes </summary> #### Adds filter proc (the ones that act like templates) support to filter transitions. Found this when testing this pr, seemed silly. #### Makes our emissive mask mask all light instead This avoids dumbass overlay lighting lighting up wallmounts. We switch modes if some turfflags are set, to accomplish the same thing with more overhead, and support showing things through the darkness. Also fixes a bug where you'd only get one fullscreen object per mob, so opening and closing a submap would take it away Also also fixes the lighting backdrop not actually spanning the screen. It doesn't actually do anything anymore because of the fullscreen light we have, but just in case that's unsued. Needs cleanup in future. #### Moves openspace to its own plane that doesn't draw, maxing its color with a sprite This is to support the above We relay this plane to lighting mask so openspace can like, have lighting #### Changes our definition of nightvision to the light cutoff of night vision goggles and such Side affect of removing see_in_dark. ## About The Pull Request i was fucking around with brain traumas on a downstream and noticed they had similar issues to quirks so i decided to continue work from #73116  (search in VSC for span class = 'notice') its going to be a bit of a thing to get all of these but this is a decent chunk i think there was only one annoying/tough file. imaginary_friend.dm had class = 'game say' and class = 'emote' both of which after some testing did not seem like they did anything. ill try to keep that in mind in other files if i continue to do this but i either omitted them because they didnt have any formatting or, in the case of emote, turned it into name, which i think is what you'd want those messages to look like. there were also a few small spelling errors that i fixed ## Why It's Good For The Game more consistent and stops people from copying brain trauma formatting wrong ## Changelog they should all work the same --------- Co-authored-by: san7890 <the@san7890.com> |

Rewrites how action buttons icons are generated, makes them layer nicer. Allows observers to see a mob's action buttons. (#71339)
## About The Pull Request
- Rewrites how action button icons are generated.
- Prior, generated an action button icon was fairly simplistic and
didn't allow for many changes. Someone recently added the option for
overlays to be generated over action buttons, but the framework was very
weak.
- Now, action button icon generation is split across multiple procs,
like atom icon updates.
- The background of action buttons are underlays
- The actual icon of the action button is the icon and icon state of the
action button movable
- The rim / border of the button is an overlay, layered overtop the
button.
- Allows observers to see what action buttons a mob has. They even
update in real time! And no, the observers cannot click on them.
## Why It's Good For The Game
- Runechat text of action buttons are no longer hidden behind the actual
icon. This was very ugly with cooldown actions, as the cooldown text was
hidden behind a lot of spell icons.
- Cuts down on a lot of icon duplication.
- Gives much finer control over action button icons
- Saves a bit of processing from generating full action button icons
when not necessary. Not implemented in many places, but is in some.

515 Compatibility (#71161)
Makes the code compatible with 515.1594+
Few simple changes and one very painful one.
Let's start with the easy:
* puts call behind `LIBCALL` define, so call_ext is properly used in 515
* Adds `NAMEOF_STATIC(_,X)` macro for nameof in static definitions since
src is now invalid there.
* Fixes tgui and devserver. From 515 onward the tmp3333{procid} cache
directory is not appened to base path in browser controls so we don't
check for it in base js and put the dev server dummy window file in
actual directory not the byond root.
* Renames the few things that had /final/ in typepath to ultimate since
final is a new keyword
And the very painful change:
`.proc/whatever` format is no longer valid, so we're replacing it with
new nameof() function. All this wrapped in three new macros.
`PROC_REF(X)`,`TYPE_PROC_REF(TYPE,X)`,`GLOBAL_PROC_REF(X)`. Global is
not actually necessary but if we get nameof that does not allow globals
it would be nice validation.
This is pretty unwieldy but there's no real alternative.
If you notice anything weird in the commits let me know because majority
was done with regex replace.

Multiz Rework: Human Suffering Edition (Contains PLANE CUBE) (#69115)
About The Pull Request I've reworked multiz. This was done because our current implementation of multiz flattens planes down into just the openspace plane. This breaks any effects we attach to plane masters (including lighting), but it also totally kills the SIDE_MAP map format, which we NEED for wallening (A major 3/4ths resprite of all wall and wall adjacent things, making them more then one tile high. Without sidemap we would be unable to display things both in from of and behind objects on map. Stupid.) This required MASSIVE changes. Both to all uses of the plane var for reasons I'll discuss later, and to a ton of different systems that interact with rendering. I'll do my best to keep this compact, but there's only so much I can do. Sorry brother. Core idea OK: first thing. vis_contents as it works now squishes the planes of everything inside it down into the plane of the vis_loc. This is bad. But how to do better? It's trivially easy to make copies of our existing plane masters but offset, and relay them to the bottom of the plane above. Not a problem. The issue is how to get the actual atoms on the map to "land" on them properly. We could use FLOAT_PLANE to offset planes based off how they're being seen, in theory this would allow us to create lens for how objects are viewed. But that's not a stable thing to do, because properly "landing" a plane on a desired plane master would require taking into account every bit of how it's being seen, would inherently break this effect. Ok so we need to manually edit planes based off "z layer" (IE: what layer of a z stack are you on). That's the key conceit of this pr. Implementing the plane cube, and ensuring planes are always offset properly. Everything else is just gravy. About the Plane Cube Each plane master (except ones that opt out) is copied down by some constant value equal to the max absolute change between the first and the last plane. We do this based off the max z stack size detected by SSmapping. This is also where updates come from, and where all our updating logic will live. As mentioned, plane masters can choose to opt out of being mirrored down. In this case, anything that interacts with them assuming that they'll be offset will instead just get back the valid plane value. This works for render targets too, since I had to work them into the system as well. Plane masters can also be temporarily hidden from the client's screen. This is done as an attempt at optimization, and applies to anything used in niche cases, or planes only used if there's a z layer below you. About Plane Master Groups BYOND supports having different "maps" on screen at once (IE: groups of items/turfs/etc) Plane masters cannot cover 2 maps at once, since their location is determined by their screen_loc. So we need to maintain a mirror of each plane for every map we have open. This was quite messy, so I've refactored it (and maps too) to be a bit more modular. Rather then storing a list of plane masters, we store a list of plane master group datums. Each datum is in charge of the plane masters for its particular map, both creating them, and managing them. Like I mentioned, I also refactored map views. Adding a new mapview is now as simple as newing a /atom/movable/screen/map_view, calling generate_view with the appropriate map id, setting things you want to display in its vis_contents, and then calling display_to on it, passing in the mob to show ourselves to. Much better then the hardcoded pattern we used to use. So much duplicated code man. Oh and plane master controllers, that system we have that allows for applying filters to sets of plane masters? I've made it use lookups on plane master groups now, rather then hanging references to all impacted planes. This makes logic easier, and prevents the need to manage references and update the controllers. image In addition, I've added a debug ui for plane masters. It allows you to view all of your own plane masters and short descriptions of what they do, alongside tools for editing them and their relays. It ALSO supports editing someone elses plane masters, AND it supports (in a very fragile and incomplete manner) viewing literally through someone else's eyes, including their plane masters. This is very useful, because it means you can debug "hey my X is yorked" issues yourself, on live. In order to accomplish this I have needed to add setters for an ungodly amount of visual impacting vars. Sight flags, eye, see_invis, see_in_dark, etc. It also comes with an info dump about the ui, and plane masters/relays in general. Sort of on that note. I've documented everything I know that's niche/useful about our visual effects and rendering system. My hope is this will serve to bring people up to speed on what can be done more quickly, alongside making my sin here less horrible. Most of the time this is really simple. When a plane var is set, we need to provide some spokesperson for the appearance's z level. We can use this to derive their z layer, and thus what offset to use. This is just a lot of gruntwork, but it's occasionally more complex. Sometimes we need to cache a list of z layer -> effect, and then use that. Also a LOT of updating on z move. So much z move shit. Oh. and in order to make byond darkness work properly, I needed to add SEE_BLACKNESS to all sight flags. This draws darkness to plane 0, which means I'm able to relay it around and draw it on different z layers as is possible. fun darkness ripple effects incoming someday I also need to update mob overlays on move. I do this by realiizing their appearances, mutating their plane, and then readding the overlay in the correct order. The cost of this is currently 3N. I'm convinced this could be improved, but I've not got to it yet. It can also occasionally cause overlays to corrupt. This is fixed by laying a protective ward of overlays.Copy in the sand, but that spell makes the compiler confused, so I'll have to bully lummy about fixing it at some point. Behavior changes We've had to give up on the already broken gateway "see through" effect. Won't work without managing gateway plane masters or something stupid. Not worth it. So instead we display the other side as a ui element. It's worse, but not that bad. Because vis_contents no longer flattens planes (most of the time), some uses of it now have interesting behavior. The main thing that comes to mind is alert popups that display mobs. They can impact the lighting plane. I don't really care, but it should be fixable, I think, given elbow grease. Ah and I've cleaned up layers and plane defines to make them a bit easier to read/reason about, at least I think. Reorganizes the entire icons/mob folder.
Added the following new subfolders:
nonhuman-player (this was initially just called "antag", but then I realized guardians aren't technically antags)
simplemob
silicon
effects (for bloodstains, fire, etc)
simplemob/held-pets (for exactly that -- I wasn't sure if this should go in inhands instead)
species/monkey
Moves the following stuff:
All human parts moved into species, with moth, lizard, monkey, etc parts moved to corresponding subfolders. Previously, there were some moth parts in mob/species/moth, and others just loose in mob. Other species were similar.
icemoon, lavaland, and jungle folders made into subfolders of simplemob
All AI and silicon stuff, as well as Beepsky et al. into the silicon folder, simplemobs into the simplemob folder, aliens into the nonhuman-player folder, etc.
Split up animal_parts.dmi into two bodyparts.dmi which were put in their respective folders (species/alien and species/monkey)
Code changes:
Filepath changes to account for all of this
Adds a check when performing surgery on monkeys and xenos, because we can no longer assume their limbs are in the same file
Turns some hardcoded statues and showcases that were built into maps into objects instead
Things I'd like to do in the future but cant be assed right now:
Remove primarily-antag sprites from simplemob/mob.dmi (Revenant, Morph, etc.) and put them in the nonhuman-player folder
Split up mutant_bodyparts.dmi into different files for Tizirans, Felinids, monkeys, etc and put them in their own folders. Those may have once been meant primarily for mutated humans but that's now how they're being used right now.

Action button refactor/rework: Enhanced Dragging (#65180)

I noticed a lot of strange and un-intuitive behavior in action buttons, and got stung by the bloat bug. Damn it hug #58027
I'll do my best to explain what I've changed and why, might get a bit long.
If you want a better idea, read the commits. Most of em are pretty solid, if long.
Whelp. Here we go.
How do action buttons currently work
All action buttons are draggable, to any place on the screen. They're held in an actions list on the player's mob.
Their location in this list determines their position on the top of the screen. If one is dragged away from the top, its position in the list is "saved". This looks really bad.
If two buttons are dragged over each other, their positions swap. (inside the actions list too)
If a button is shift clicked, it is brought back to the position it started at.
If the action collapse button that you likely just mentally edit out is alt clicked, it resets the position of all action buttons on the screen.
If an action is ctrl clicked, it is "locked". This prevents any future position changes, and also enables a saving feature. With this saving feature, locked button positions persist between rounds. So your first o2 canister will always start where you saved it, etc.
Actions and buttons are a one to one link. While there is functionality to share action buttons between two players, this means showing the same object to both. So one player can move a button on another's screen. Horrendous.
This also makes code that modifies properties of the screen object itself very clunky.
Why is this bad
A: None knew pretty much any of this information. It is actually documented, just in a horribly formatted screen tip on the collapse button, you know the one we all mentally delete from the hud.
B: None of this is intuitive. Dragging buttons makes the hud look much worse, and you get no feedback that you even can drag them. Depressing
C: We use actions to make new options clear to the player. This means players can have a lot of action buttons on the hud. This gets cluttery
D: The collapse button is useless. It lets you clear your screen if someone like me fucks up and gives you 2000 actions, but outside of that it just hides all information from you. You never want to see none of your action buttons, just a filtered list of them.
E: On a technical level, they're quite messy, and not fully functionally complete. This is depressing.
What I've done
Assuming the above to be true, how do we fix them?
Well first I'm going to go over everything I changed, including links to major commits. I'll then describe the finished product, and why I made the decisions I did.
Oh and I've moved some of the more niche or technical discussion to dropdowns. Hopefully this makes finding the major functional changes easier
Adds helper procs for turning screen_loc strings into more manageable arrays. This doesn't fully support all of the screen_loc spec, but it's enough for what I'm doing. (f54865f)

Fixes an issue with tooltip code itself. If you tried to hold down a mouse button while dragging onto a tooltip enabled object, it would silently fail. The js made assumptions about the order args came in, which broke when buttons were held down (
