Ghom 0b0c5ea91e Unit test material checks are now performed on all crafting recipes by default. All stack recipes now transfer mats to the results (#92620)
## About The Pull Request
Extends the part of the crafting unit test that ensures consistency
between the total mats of the components of a recipe (or rather, the
result of said recipe) and a generic instance of the same type as its
result, previously only implemented on food recipes.

## Why It's Good For The Game
This ensures a degree of consistency with the material composition of
various objects in the game. I couldn't do it in the original PR as that
one was too big already and it took months to get it merged, and have
the relative bugs fixed.

Currently a WIP as I slowly deal with the unit test reports.

## Changelog

🆑
refactor: Follow-up to the crafting/material refactor from months ago.
All objects crafted with stacks now inherit their mat composition (not
necessarily the effects and color) by default, while previously only a
few things like chair, sinks and toilets did. Report any object looking
or behaving weirdly as a result.
fix: The material composition of ammo boxes is no longer a 1/10 of what
it's supposed to be. It was a shitty hack to make it harder to recycle
empty ammo boxes. Instead, they lose materials as they're emptied now.

MrMelbert 558afad6a4 Use any item as a prosthetic arm, what's the worst that could happen? (#91573)
## About The Pull Request

![image](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/84290f87-8750-4972-8ef1-c22d0cde35a4)

Makes the chainsaw arm code generic, so you can attach any normal or
bulky sized item as an arm

Impl. detail:

Items-as-arms just use inhand sprites unless it has
`/datum/element/prosthetic_icon`. Currently used for chainsaws as the
only item with an implanted sprite.

Chainsaw arm nullrod now fully replaces the arm rather than being a
nodrop item.

When surgically adding any non-bodypart item, applying the item will
result in a loose fitting, and it might fall off on attack. The
following step (tape/suture) removes the fall chance.

## Why It's Good For The Game

Chainsaw arms are funny, but why stop at chainsaws beyond it being an
Evil Dead reference?

MrMelbert 5261efb67f Re-refactors batons / Refactors attack chain force modifiers (#90809)
## About The Pull Request

Melee attack chain now has a list passed along with it,
`attack_modifiers`, which you can stick force modifiers to change the
resulting attack

This is basically a soft implementation of damage packets until a more
definitive pr, but one that only applies to item attack chain, and not
unarmed attacks.

This change was done to facilitate a baton refactor - batons no longer
hack together their own attack chain, and are now integrated straight
into the real attack chain. This refactor itself was done because batons
don't send any attack signals, which has been annoying in the past (for
swing combat).

Ghom 339616ae78 You can now interact with held mobs beside wearing them (feat: "minor" melee attack chain cleanup) (#90080)
## About The Pull Request
People can now pet held mothroaches and pugs if they want to, or use
items on them, hopefully without causing many issues. After all, it only
took about a couple dozen lines of code to make...

...Oh, did the 527 files changed or the 850~ lines added/removed perhaps
catch your eye? Made you wonder if I accidentally pushed the wrong
branch? or skewed something up big time? Well, nuh uh. I just happen to
be fed up with the melee attack chain still using stringized params
instead of an array/list. It was frankly revolting to see how I'd have
had to otherwise call `list2params` for what I'm trying to accomplish
here, and make this PR another tessera to the immense stupidity of our
attack chain procs calling `params2list` over and over and over instead
of just using that one call instance from `ClickOn` as an argument. It's
2025, honey, wake up!

I also tried to replace some of those single letter vars/args but there
are just way too many of them.

## Why It's Good For The Game
Improving old code. And I want to be able to pet mobroaches while
holding them too.

SmArtKar 7ddc30783a Adds better attack animations and alternate attack modes (#88418)
## About The Pull Request

This is the first PR in a series attempting to modernize our damage and
armor, both from a code and a gameplay perspective. This part implements
unique attack animations, adds alternate attack modes for items and
fixes some minor oversights.

Items now have unique attack animation based on their sharpness - sharp
items are now swung in an arc, while pointy items are thrust forward.
This change is ***purely visual***, this is not swing combat. (However,
this does assign icon rotation data to many items, which should help
swing combat later down the line).

Certain items like knives and swords now have secondary attacks - right
clicks will perform stabbing attacks instead of slashing for a chance to
leave piercing wounds, albeit with slightly lower damage - trying to
stick a katana through someone won't get you very far!

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/1f92bbcd-9aa1-482f-bc26-5e84fe2a07e1

Turns out that spears acted as oversized knives this entire time, being
SHARP_EDGED instead of SHARP_POINTY - in order for their animations to
make sense, they're now once again pointy (according to comment,
originally they were made sharp because piercing wounds weren't very
threatening, which is no longer the case)

Another major change is that structure damage is now influenced by armor
penetration - I am not sure if this is intentional or not, but attacking
item's AP never applied to non-mob damage.

Additionally, also fixes an issue where attack verbs for you and
everyone else may differ.

SmArtKar d4ac95a0e1 Nobody expects the span inquisition: replaces most <span>s with macros (#86798)
## About The Pull Request
123 changed files and multiple crashes after writing broken regex, I
replaced most remains of direct spans with macros. This cleans up the
code and makes it easier to work with in general, see justification for
the original PR. I also fixed a bunch of broken and/or unclosed spans
here too.
I intentionally avoided replacing spans with multiple classes (in most
cases) and spans in the middle of strings as it would impact readability
(in my opinion at least) and could be done later if required.

Mothblocks a140505346 Replace natural beheading with cranial fissures (splitting your skull) (#80703)
## About The Pull Request

Replaces natural beheading (doing a lot of damage to the head) with
cranial fissures, which split your skull in half.

![dreamseeker_2023-12-31T19-38-16](https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/assets/35135081/f84dc479-6156-45b7-bb23-4e4ec7378f6b)

While you have this wound, your eyes can be pulled out of your head with
bare hands, and slipping will spill your brain out of your head.

Removes beheading objective from traitor.

Zombies can be beheaded all the same.

Any other way of beheading, such as surgery or amputation shears, is
still possible.

Closes #80439

## Why It's Good For The Game

I've enjoyed seeing the results of the test merge to remove natural
beheading. At 947 beheadings in a week, 1 in every 7 deaths resulted in
a beheading. This makes it significantly easier to remove people from
rounds as the brain is generally critical to actually reviving someone.
While round removal is fine, it should be something that is
intentionally performed with enough effort. Mass round removals ought to
require a significant amount of effort. There are plenty of ways to
round remove someone, but it ought not be an incidental choice.

The effects of beheading removal have shown some interesting anecdotal
highlights (nothing here is backed up with stats, so take it with a
grain of salt):
1. As a whole, people did not really replace it with anything. The
biggest alternative has been lighting people on fire, but this has not
been done at a significant enough scale at all to be a noteworthy
problem, and is still fixable with enough effort.
2. Cult and rev rounds have played out far more interestingly. In one
round I was adminning a head of staff who intended to behead every
revolutionary they saw, but because they didn't, the back and forth
continues. I've also had opportunities to revive head revs that I am
skeptical would've been available to me otherwise.

Complete removal of beheading was not chosen as it does not feel right
for a repeated fire axe to the head to do basically nothing. The current
implementation is intended to be something that is just not useful
enough to do on everyone you see, but is still appreciably an effect.

## Changelog

will now split their skull in half. While their skull is open, you can
rip out their eyes with your hands. and they will spill their brain out

person, or someone with their skull split open.

san7890 7f7688b60a Demotes the "electrical conductivity" flag from flags_1 to obj_flags (#80033)
## About The Pull Request

Code to handle this flag only ever existed on the `/obj` sublevel, so
there's no need for it to be on the `/atom` level `flags_1`. There was
probably a point in time in which mobs or turfs conducted electricity
but there's zero code for it anymore so we truly just live in a society
now.
## Why It's Good For The Game

Watermelon914 69827604c4 Improves the RPG loot wizard event. (#77218)
## About The Pull Request
As the title says. Adds a bunch more stat changes to various different
items and a somewhat simple way of modifying them whilst minimizing
side-effects as much as possible.
Added a new negative curse of polymorph suffix that can randomly
polymorph you once you pick up the item.
Curse of hunger items won't start on items that are not on a turf.
Curse of polymorph will only activate when equipped.

Bodyparts, two-handed melees, bags, guns and grenades, to name a few,
have a bunch of type-specific stat changes depending on their quality.

Some items won't gain fantasy suffixes during the RPG loot event, like
stacks, chairs and paper, to make gamifying the stats a bit harder.
I'm sure there'll still be other ways to game the event, but it's not
that big of a deal since these are the easiest ways to game it.
High level items also have a cool unusual effect aura

## Why It's Good For The Game
Makes the RPG item event cooler. Right now, it's a bit lame since
everything only gains force value and wound bonus on attack. This makes
the statistic increases more type-based and make it interesting to use

It's okay for some items to be powerful since this is a wizard event and
a very impactful one too. By making the curse of hunger items not spawn
on people, it'll also make it a less painful event too.

## Changelog
🆑
add: Expanded the RPG loot wizard event by giving various different
items their own statistic boost.

ArcaneMusic f2fd69a49a Minerals have been refactored so costs and minerals in items are now in terms of mineral defines. (#75052)
Ladies, Gentlemen, Gamers. You're probably wondering why I've called you
all here (through the automatic reviewer request system). So, mineral
balance! Mineral balance is less a balance and more of a nervous white
dude juggling spinning plates on a high-wire on his first day. The fact
it hasn't failed after going on this long is a miracle in and of itself.

This PR does not change mineral balance. What this does is moves over
every individual cost, both in crafting recipes attached to an object
over to a define based system. We have 3 defines:

`sheet_material_amount=2000` . Stock standard mineral sheet. This being
our central mineral unit, this is used for all costs 2000+.
`half_sheet_material_amount=1000` . Same as above, but using iron rods
as our inbetween for costs of 1000-1999.
`small_material_amount=100` . This hits 1-999. This covers... a
startlingly large amount of the codebase. It's feast or famine out here
in terms of mineral costs as a result, items are either sheets upon
sheets, or some fraction of small mats.

Shout out to riot darts for being the worst material cost in the game. I
will not elaborate.

Regardless, this has no functional change, but it sets the groundwork
for making future changes to material costs much, MUCH easier, and moves
over to a single, standardized set of units to help enforce coding
standards on new items, and will bring up lots of uncomfortable balance
questions down the line.

For now though, this serves as some rough boundaries on how items costs
are related, and will make adjusting these values easier going forward.

Except for foam darts.

I did round up foam darts.

Adjusting mineral balance on the macro scale will be as simple as
changing the aforementioned mineral defines, where the alternative is a
rats nest of magic number defines. ~~No seriously, 11.25 iron for a foam
dart are you kidding me what is the POINT WHY NOT JUST MAKE IT 11~~

Items individual numbers have not been adjusted yet, but we can
standardize how the conversation can be held and actually GET SOMEWHERE
on material balance as opposed to throwing our hands up or ignoring it
for another 10 years.

Rhials 9bdb194539 Gives the chainsaw start/stop/loop SFX, makes the arm-mounted chainsaw a subtype of a regular chainsaw (#73996)
## About The Pull Request

The chainsaw now has an audio loop, as well as SFX for starting and
stopping. I'm pretty confident that I did the attribution stuff
correctly.

https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/28870487/225054900-4bf87ee7-9245-4004-b414-77d0e6e83a7c.mp4

I think this came out well. It may be a bit loud, but I wanted the
volume to be about the same as how the chainsaw slash sound comes out.
Audio stuff isn't really my forte, so let me know if anything sounds
off, or if any adjustments should be made.

To make this work for the mounted chainsaw (more specifically, the
abstract object that enters your hand), it has been made into a chainsaw
subtype. An updatepaths script has been included in the event that
someone has a map where the former path was included (why??).
## Why It's Good For The Game

Makes the chainsaw more menacing. It's one of the most powerful and
beloved pieces of crew weaponry, in addition to being a fucking
chainsaw. If you aren't keen on walking around the hallways with the
chainsaw loop playing like the badass you are, you can always just keep
it off until you get into a fight.

Gives an extra bit of immersion for those special moments where you get
to chainsaw someone to death.

MrMelbert 329921639a Rewrites how action buttons icons are generated, makes them layer nicer. Allows observers to see a mob's action buttons. (#71339)
## About The Pull Request

- Rewrites how action button icons are generated.
- Prior, generated an action button icon was fairly simplistic and
didn't allow for many changes. Someone recently added the option for
overlays to be generated over action buttons, but the framework was very
weak.
- Now, action button icon generation is split across multiple procs,
like atom icon updates.
      - The background of action buttons are underlays
- The actual icon of the action button is the icon and icon state of the
action button movable
- The rim / border of the button is an overlay, layered overtop the
button.

- Allows observers to see what action buttons a mob has. They even
update in real time! And no, the observers cannot click on them.

## Why It's Good For The Game

- Runechat text of action buttons are no longer hidden behind the actual
icon. This was very ugly with cooldown actions, as the cooldown text was
hidden behind a lot of spell icons.
- Cuts down on a lot of icon duplication.
- Gives much finer control over action button icons
- Saves a bit of processing from generating full action button icons
when not necessary. Not implemented in many places, but is in some.

- restructure the file system of action.dm, separating a good amount of item actions and miscellaneous garbage into files where they belong slightly better. Also splits off item actions, cooldown actions, innate actions, etc. into their own files, overlal making it much better to work with
- converts touch attacks to actions
- converts blood crawl, jaunt subtype

* kills proc_holder pt5
- clears up some icon issues so all the currently converted pages don't have errors
- shapeshift
- some more action cleanup

- some documentation
- reworks feedback to prevent oversight with teleports and stuff

* kills proc_holder pt6:
- converted cult spells
- converted magic missile
- converted mime spells
- chipped away at the errors
- removed some vars which were too general, replaced them with more locally applicable vars. for example "range" which could mean "projectile range" or "aoe radius" or whatever - instead of having a broad net which everyone applies to in a confusing matter, instead lets each spell delegate on their own.
- merged magic/spell and magic/aoe, as the comment intended
- more unified behavior for spell levelling

* kill proc_holders pt 6.5:
- replacing a buncha old proc_holders that have been updated to reduce some errors. sub 900 baby

* kills proc_holder pt 6.75:
- minor fixes

* kills proc_holder pt7:
- cuts down on some errors

- refactors spell book
- refactors spell implant
- some more minor error fixing

* kill proc_holder pt 8.5:
- scan ability

* Adds some robust documentation

* kill proc_holder pt9:
- converts some / most mutations over

* kill proc_holder pt10:
- sort out all the granters
- refactor them slightly
- fix some compile errors

* Some set-unset sanity - going to need to test removing Share()

* Removes transfer actions. It doesn't seem to do anything.
- Transfer_actions was called when current = new_character so locially speaking the early return in Grant() should cause it to NOOP. Test this in the future though

* Removes sharing from actions, docs actions better

* Some better documentation for spell and spell components

* Kills proc_holder pt11:
- Finally finishes ALL THE SPELLS IN THE SPELL FOLDER
- Fixes some more errors

* kills proc_holder pt11.5:
- minor error fixing and sanity

* Method of sharing actions. Can be improved in the future, needs testing

* Implements a way to update the stat panel entry for a spell. Also gets rid of VV stuff, as you can update the bigflags directly in VV now.

* Curse of madness bug I put in.

- converts and refactors spiders slightly
- some minor fixing around the place as usual

- slaughter demons have their own blood crawls
- jaunting dummies don't have side effects on destroy() anymore

* Wizard spell logging and even more refactoring

Ryll Ryll e8f2441630 Minor twohanded component refactor (#66791)
The two handed component, while useful, has quite a bit of bloat that gets replicated whenever a new class of 2h items is added.

This PR cuts that bloat by replacing the use ofCOMSIG_TWOHANDED_WIELD and COMSIG_TWOHANDED_UNWIELD as ersatz callbacks with actual callbacks, the replacement of various var/wielded defs on items with a check for HAS_TRAIT(src, TRAIT_WIELDED), and the removal of any now-unnecessary on_wield()/on_unwield() procs that simply toggled those wielded vars

Gandalf 684eab3d31 Converts SFX keys into DEFINES (#65146)
About The Pull Request

Simply converts all instances of soundkeys that use get_sfx from strings into defines.

E.g. "sparks" is now SFX_SPARKS
Why It's Good For The Game

It makes life a lot easier when you're looking for a sound effect. You just type SFX_ and you get suggestions in VSC. Plus, it looks better.

tralezab 6c01cc2c01 every case of initialize that should have mapload, does (#61623)
## About The Pull Request

stop forgetting to include mapload, if you don't include it then every single subtype past it by default doesn't include it

for example, `obj/item` didn't include mapload so every single item by default didn't fill in mapload

![](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/823293417186000909/875122648605147146/image0.gif)

## Regex used:

procs without args, not even regex

`/Initialize()`

procs with args
`\/Initialize\((?!mapload)((.)*\w)?`

cleanup of things i didn't want to mapload:
`\/datum\/(.)*\/Initialize\(mapload`

Arkatos1 ac5a414e78 Improves item's action button updating code (#60149)
This PR improves item action button updating code by introducing a proc to update all item's associated action buttons, which simplifies the process and reduces code duplication.

I also fixed a relevant bug where a PDA's action button icon did not properly update upon light toggle because it did not force the button update. Forcing the button update is needed in this case due to how light overlay operates, where the button icon state stays the same, so the code thought updating the action button icon was unnecessary.

Watermelon914 375a20e49b Refactors most spans into span procs (#59645)
Converts most spans into span procs. Mostly used regex for this and sorted out any compile time errors afterwards so there could be some bugs.
Was initially going to do defines, but ninja said to make it into a proc, and if there's any overhead, they can easily be changed to defines.

Makes it easier to control the formatting and prevents typos when creating spans as it'll runtime if you misspell instead of silently failing.
Reduces the code you need to write when writing spans, as you don't need to close the span as that's automatically handled by the proc.

(Note from Lemon: This should be converted to defines once we update the minimum version to 514. Didn't do it now because byond pain and such)

Replaces like 70-80% of 0 and such, as a side effect cleaned up a bunch of returns

Jared-Fogle 45c14f6330 Adds SIGNAL_HANDLER and SIGNAL_HANDLER_DOES_SLEEP to prevent signal callbacks from blocking (#52761)
Adds SIGNAL_HANDLER, a macro that sets SHOULD_NOT_SLEEP(TRUE). This should ideally be required on all new signal callbacks.

Adds BLOCKING_SIGNAL_HANDLER, a macro that does nothing except symbolize "this is an older signal that didn't necessitate a code rewrite". It should not be allowed for new work.

This comes from discussion around #52735, which yields by calling input, and (though it sets the return type beforehand) will not properly return the flag to prevent attack from slapping.

To fix 60% of the yielding cases, WrapAdminProcCall no longer waits for another admin's proc call to finish. I'm not an admin, so I don't know how many behinds this has saved, but if this is problematic for admins I can just make it so that it lets you do it anyway. I'm not sure what the point of this babysitting was anyway.

Requested by @optimumtact.
