Joshua Kidder 7a3ad79506 All camelCase (Brute|Burn|Fire|Tox|Oxy|Organ|Stamina)(Loss) procs now use snake_case. UNDERSCORES RULE! (#94111)
## About The Pull Request
It's just a partial cleanup of
anti-[STYLE](https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/blob/master/.github/guides/STYLE.md)
code from /tg/'s ancient history. I compiled & tested with my helpful
assistant and damage is still working.

src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/26dabc17-088f-4008-b299-3ff4c27142c3"
/>

I'll upload the .cs script I used to do it shortly.

## Why It's Good For The Game
Just minor code cleanup.

Script used is located at https://metek.tech/camelTo-Snake.7z

EDIT 11/23/25: Updated the script to use multithreading and sequential
scan so it works a hell of a lot faster

Ghom 778ed9f1ab The death or internal/external organ pathing (ft. fixed fox ears and recoloring bodypart overlays with dye sprays) (#87434)
## About The Pull Request
This PR kills the abstract internal and external typepaths for organs,
now replaced by an EXTERNAL_ORGAN flag to distinguish the two kinds.

This PR also fixes fox ears (from #87162, no tail is added) and
mushpeople's caps (they should be red, the screenshot is a tad
outdated).

And yes, you can now use a hair dye spray to recolor body parts like
most tails, podpeople hair, mushpeople caps and cat ears. The process
can be reversed by using the spray again.

## Why It's Good For The Game
Time-Green put some effort during the last few months to untie functions
and mechanics from external/internal organ pathing. Now, all that this
pathing is good for are a few typechecks, easily replaceable with
bitflags.

Also podpeople and mushpeople need a way to recolor their "hair". This
kind of applies to fish tails from the fish infusion, which colors can't
be selected right now. The rest is just there if you ever want to
recolor your lizard tail for some reason.

Proof of testing btw (screenshot taken before mushpeople cap fix, right
side has dyed body parts, moth can't be dyed, they're already fabolous):

MrMelbert a40986353d Fixes surgeries runtiming constantly when having the surgery initator open, fixes some surgeries missing sounds (#81307)
## About The Pull Request

Fixes #79318

- See the issue for more information. I fixed the runtimes as expected,
and then removed `SURGERY_REQUIRE_LIMB` from some surgeries which don't
actually require a limb, such as implant removal, dissection, and living
revival. I could've easily missed some, and as a result some surgeries
are lost to the void and unselectable, but from what I could tell in
testing it seems... fine.

- Adds `SHOULD_CALL_PARENT` to surgery `can_start`. Cleans up some
surgery `can_start` overrides.

- Adds missing sounds to puncture repair surgery.

Zephyr ecbcef778d Refactors Regenerate Organs, and a few organ helpers (#74219)
## About The Pull Request

Refactors regenerate organs to be slightly more intelligent in handling
organ changes and replacements.
Noteably:
- We don't remove organs that were modified by the owner; such as
changing out your heart for a cybernetic
- We early break out of the for loop if they aren't supposed to have an
organ there and remove it
- We check for the organ already being correct, and just healing it and
continuing if it is

Also changes the names of some of the organ helpers into snake_case

MrMelbert c3a1f21c1a Converts blindness and nearsightedness to status effects, scratches some VERY dumb blindness handling that resulted in mobs becoming "incurably" blind (#72267)
## About The Pull Request

- Nearsighted is now a grouped status effect.
- Blindness is now a grouped status effect.
   - Eye handling of blindness has improved.
- When eyes are removed, they now cause you to become blind, rather than
handling it in `update_tint`.
- Being ahealed no longer blinds you for one tick, meaning that black
overlay on aheal is gone.
- Temporary Blindness is now a status effect.
- Both Nearsightedness and Blindness have been exorcised from mob vars
and life chains. This means that we've finally cut 2 procs from life,
`handle_status_effect` and `handle_traits`, and moved both to event
based processing. Wooo optimizations.
- Swapped pacifism status effect to use apply and set helpers.
- Removed an unused admin toggle that disabled welding helmet tint but
also tint from every clothing item and also blindness from losing your
eyes.
- Clothes now generally all blind their mob more consistently.
- Oculine, eye surgery, and sensory restoration are now no longer the
only way to fix blindness from eye damage. If your eyes are healed
through any other means, it will also heal your blindness.
- Some things that made you blind, such as ling blind sting, no longer
just flat made you blind from eye damage forever. They now cause eye
damage directly, which in turn makes you blind from eye damage, as
expected.
- Pacifists can't eyestab anymore. Eyestabs now have a limit on the
amount of blur applied.
- Refactored some `is_x_covered` procs to accept flags rather than have
a lot of arguments for some silly reason.
- Unit tests for blindness.

## Why It's Good For The Game

Blindness was exceptionally poorly handled prior, primarily due to the
fact that it was tied to the mob instead of separated out

On top of that the system put a LOT of faith in proper handling of
blindness on the coder's end which was misplaced evidently. Many places
didn't update or handle blindness correctly, or just let people
perma-blind.

Deferring it to a status effect improves this a lot

## Changelog

🆑 Melbert
refactor: Refactored blindness and nearsightedness. Important to note is
that all mobs are naturally blind until their eyes are actually created.
refactor: Refactored "is covered" procs
fix: Less sources of blindness now cause permanent blindness. Includes
the "Blind" Spell and "Blind Sting" from changelings.
admin: Ahealing someone no longer flashes the blind overlay for 1 tick.
admin: I removed an unused (sort of) inaccessible admin verb that
allowed you to toggle the tint from all welding helmets (and clothing)
(and lack of eyes) in existence, let me know if you want similar back
balance: Changeling "Blind Sting" now causes eye damage (enough to
blind) rather than arbitrarily forcing blindness.
balance: Visionloss virus symptom now causes eye damage (enough to
blind) rather than arbitrarily forcing blindness.
balance: Oculine has been reworked slightly. Prior, Oculine arbitrarily
healed blindness and nearsightedness from eye damage reagrdless of how
damaged the eyes were, and applied blur on success. Now, Oculine just
heals eye damage, and blindness / nearsightedness is restored in the
process. There is now a probability every tick that eye blur is applied
based on how pure the oculine is while healing very damaged eyes.
balance: Pacifists can no longer eyestab.
balance: Any clothing item that covers your eyes contributes to getting
the bonus while sleeping, and to removing temporary blindness faster

MrMelbert 0d4b56435b Converts drowsy and eye blur to status effects, striking yet another two carbon level status vars (#71950)
## About The Pull Request

You know the deal by now.

- Drowsiness is now tracked via status effect.
- Eye blue is now tracked via status effect.

In converting these over, cleaned up a bit of code relating to some
other effects. Attempts to unify behavior between some of them, namely
certain biotypes or mob types shouldn't be experiencing certain effects.

## Why It's Good For The Game

More stuff moved to status effects, slightly more cleaner and better to
work with code. Allows for all mobs that can sleep to be able to get
drowsy, too.

John Willard 3b0794eca9 Surgery code improvements (#71182)
## About The Pull Request

* Changes a lot of things about surgeries to hopefully bring it up to
more modern code standards.
* Removes a ton of single-letter vars used in checking surgeries on
people.
* Makes use of continue/break in for() loops.
* Properly documents the vars on surgeries
* Turns 'ignore clothes', 'self operating', 'lying required', 'require
limb' and 'require real limb' from vars into surgery flags
* Removes a lot re-defines of target_mobtype being set to human, as
that's the base anyways.
* Also tries to organize the vars on each surgery a bit.
* Makes the surgery initiator hopefully a little bit more sane
* Removes the surgery's can_cancel and stomach pump's
accumulated_experience vars, as they were entirely unused.

## Why It's Good For The Game

I looked at surgery code and couldn't stand it, this is hopefully
helping bring it to something we can stand.
This however doesn't touch the individual surgery steps.

lizardqueenlexi 588779256e Surgery computers tell which tool to use. (#70973)
## About The Pull Request

![image](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/105025397/199194075-d1a3b42a-5c2e-4a02-84d1-84b4be2b601b.png)

All surgery step names, displayed in the surgical computer, will now
show which tool to use for that step in parentheses. In cases where
multiple tools have a 100% success chance, all are listed; if no tool
has a 100% chance then the "correct" one is shown.

Surgery computers will never display "alternate" tools for surgeries
(those with a lower success chance), but this shouldn't be a problem.
Surgical computers are _usually_ in places with surgical tools at hand,
and NanoTrasen wouldn't want to encourage doing brain surgery with a
screwdriver. Y'know, probably.
## Why It's Good For The Game

Firstly, this change is particularly helpful to new players. If you have
little experience with surgery, it's not always clear which tool you're
meant to use for which step. This is especially true for some of the
odder surgeries - if you didn't already know, it's not clear at all that
"brainwash" means "use a hemostat". While there are certainly guides on
the wiki, it's nice to have as much information provided in-game as
possible.

Secondly, this change brings consistency. A _small_ number of surgical
steps (healing broken bones, namely) already do this! I see no reason
why this shouldn't be extended to the remaining surgical steps,
especially because it's not particularly obtrusive to the surgery
computer interface.
## Changelog

Watermelon914 375a20e49b Refactors most spans into span procs (#59645)
Converts most spans into span procs. Mostly used regex for this and sorted out any compile time errors afterwards so there could be some bugs.
Was initially going to do defines, but ninja said to make it into a proc, and if there's any overhead, they can easily be changed to defines.

Makes it easier to control the formatting and prevents typos when creating spans as it'll runtime if you misspell instead of silently failing.
Reduces the code you need to write when writing spans, as you don't need to close the span as that's automatically handled by the proc.

(Note from Lemon: This should be converted to defines once we update the minimum version to 514. Didn't do it now because byond pain and such)

Mothblocks 0f435d5dff Remove hideous inline tab indentation, and bans it in contributing guidelines (#56912)
Done using this command sed -Ei 's/(\s*\S+)\s*\t+/\1 /g' code/**/*.dm

We have countless examples in the codebase with this style gone wrong, and defines and such being on hideously different levels of indentation. Fixing this to keep the alignment involves tainting the blames of code your PR doesn't need to be touching at all. And ultimately, it's hideous.

There are some files that this sed makes uglier. I can fix these when they are pointed out, but I believe this is ultimately for the greater good of readability. I'm more concerned with if any strings relied on this.

RandolfTheMeh e9dab4c665 Universal Organ Damage system (#44710)
About The Pull Request

So organ damage is a thing now associated with general object of organ, meaning all organs inherit a damage variable, failing boolean, healing variable, and maxHealth variable. The proc applyOrganDamage takes in the damage and organ path, applying damage/healing to said organ. While an organ is in use, it heals a small amount over time (granted the organ is not failing), with this fraction being set by the healing variable.

This also reworks preexisting organ damage systems to function more so on the universal organ damage system, the liver specifically. So much code exists in regards to eyes/blindness and ears/deafness that I'll need to go ahead and take a longer time combing through the code to get everything that can reasonably be tied to those two organs and their level of damage reworked to function off of the organ damage system, as opposed to just a trait add/remove system.

Lastly, this slightly reworks scanners, since now you need to check for every organ in the body. Since organs are stored as "the [organ]" with the method I used to get them, the phrasing on the medical scanner was changed to make more sense given it now has to say something along the lines of "severe/minor damage detected within [the organ]". I'll likely add another proc if I cannot find a way to get the organ's max health during this operation, since a static number determining minor/severe damage does not work when an organ's max health is less than the typical 100 points (as is the case with eyes).
Why It's Good For The Game

Every organ can be damaged, though not every damaged organ does anything right now. Damaged livers do the same thing as they did previously, and damaged eyes develop varying levels of vision impairments. The benefits to this PR are more for future coding projects than it is for the game currently, with no foreseeable changes to the way it's played currently.

XDTM 3f28227f6c Makes surgery more stealthy (#44483)
About The Pull Request

Part of #44440

Surgery now gives detailed description to the surgeon and anyone within one tile of distance, and more vague or ambiguous descriptions to the patient and anyone further away. This can lead to a surgeon being able to perform a brainwashing in place of a brain surgery with nobody being the wiser, or implanting a different organ than the one agreed on, and so on.
Changelog

cl
add: Surgery steps are now shown in detail only to the surgeon and anyone standing adjacent to them; the patient and people watching from further away get a more vague/ambiguous description.

phil235 83633edfed - I renamed some of the new adjust procs and create new ones for eye_blind,eye_blurry and eye_stat so they get three procs just like weakened/sleeping/etc.. (Sleeping, AdjustSleeping, SetSleeping)
- renamed the eye_stat var to eye_damage.
- mob/on_varedit() added. Manually var editing a mob's eye_blind var properly updates his vision.
- I removed update_vision_overlays(), we now just update the relevant fullscreens instead of all fullscreens whenever one needs to be updated.
- fixed climbing into mecha not giving you mecha sight.
- simplified and removed copypasta from update_tinttotal() (now update_tint() )
2016-02-07 18:50:18 +01:00
phil235 81ce777ec2 - you now only see turfs when inside gas pipes.
- I renamed some vars of datum/hud to be more selfexplanatory
- Moved all datum/hud mob code into the hud folder.
- fixed alien's zone selection button not using the correct sprites.
- I removed the update_hud() proc (that needed to be removed).
- Fixed a typo in /mob/living/carbon/ContractDisease , using "internals" instead of "internal" (very different things)
- Fixed doTeleport() calling Entered() twice on the destination area.
- To reference a mob's selected zone, you now use a direct mob var ("H.zone_selected" instead of "H.zone_sel.selecting")
- mobs lose certain screen objects var ("healths", "zone_sel", "internals", etc) which are now vars of the mob's datum/hud instead.
- the Blind spell is now done via the blind mutation instead of the blind disabilities.
- Give to mobs a version of forceMove(), so the mob is always properly unbuckled, his pull stopped, his vision updated, etc.
- The "user" var of mob/camera/aiEye/remote is renamed to "eye_user" to avoid confusion.
- reset_view() is replaced by reset_perspective(). Now all changes to client.eye and client.perspective are done with this proc.
- I reworked /obj/machinery/computer/security code, changing camera is instantaneous now, as well as cancelling.
- I reworked /obj/machinery/computer/camera_advanced code as well.
- I changed /obj/item/mecha_parts/mecha_equipment/mining_scanner's meson view to be constant instead of by intermittent.
- Fixes not being able to use /obj/item/device/camera_bug while buckled.
- removed admin_forcemove() proc, admin force moving now uses forceMove() simply.
- Removed the client var "adminobs"
- Added var/vision_correction to glasses.
- Added a thermal_overload() proc for glasses, to remove copypasta in emp_act code.
- Remove the hal_crit mob var
- We no longer delete the mob's hud everytime he logs in.
- Added a stat == dead check in mob's metabolize() so we immediately stop metabolizing if one of the chem kills the mob.
- Being inside disposal bin lowers your vision, like wearing a welding helmet.
- removed the remote_view mob var.
- I changed advanced camera EYE, some fixes, removed unnecessary code when the eye moves, now the mob client eye properly follows the camera mob.
- fixes mob var "machine" not being nullified on logout.
- larva/death() was calling two "living_mob_list -= src"
- I made the Blind screen objects into a global_hud instead of giving one to each mob (like damage overlay).
- I untied tint and eye_blind, TINT_BLIND doesn't give you eye_blind=1.
- gave a visual overlay when inside locker (vimpaired)
- when inside disposal/gas pipes you get sight |= (BLIND|SEE_TURFS)
- glasses toggling updates (atmos meson toggle): DONE
- The new adjust procs serve to properly change eye_blind etc and call vision update procs when needed.
- I added an on_unset_machine() proc to handle perspective reset for camera consoles.
- I moved consequences of eye_check fail inside eye_check() procs themselves.
- I fixed vision updates being fucked by forceMove, especially pipe vision.
- I decided that damage overlay not appearing when dead.
- mob's hud_used is no longer deleted on each login()
- I refactored mob huds a bit, creating subtypes for each mob (/datum/hud/human)
- f12's hud toggling is now available to all mobs
- gave borgs a low_power_mode var so unpowered borg do not use stat= UNCONSCIOUS (which made things weird since you were unconscious but not blind)
- Fixed double Area entering when forced teleporting.
- I fixed larva pulling not being broken when cuffing them, and larva not seeing handcuff alert (and they can resist by clicking it)
- I removed pull updates from life() since it onyl checked for puller's incapacitation.
- I renamed camera/deactivate() to toggle_cam() to be more accurate.
- I fixed mmi brain being immortal (by removing the brain and putting it back)
- I simplified mmi brain emp damage.
