The NTSS Independence: Reimagined, again. (#89412)
## About The Pull Request Back in #80110, I updated the NTSS Independence, also known as the cruise emergency shuttle. Between now and then, I had gained a lot more mapping experience through my work on BoxStation. Looking back at it, I found it to be underwhelming, maybe even bland, and I figured I could do better. This time around, I have tried to make it more classy, like something one might actually see on a luxury cruise ship. <details> <summary>Dining Hall and Ballroom</summary> Upon first boarding the shuttle, players will find themselves in the dining hall and ballroom. The tables come with food, similar to the original NTSS Independence. In the initial update, tables were set up for two people each, and did not come with food. The bar now uses the booting subtypes to prevent people from climbing over. The dance floor is supposed to be classy, so I have opted for a wooden one. There are instruments provided in case people want to play their own music. Alternatively, there's a jukebox. This time around, it isn't access locked. There are painting frames on the wall. These do not populate with paintings, but can be filled if desired. Additionally, there are ten sheets each of gold and silver, along with a chisel, in case somebody wants to put sculptures along the wall, or anywhere else. </details> <details> <summary>Bridge</summary> The bridge used to be tiny. It had two seats and a connected Captain's office. Both rooms felt very cramped, which I didn't like. The new bridge includes a corridor, leading past a glass office and down some stairs to the helm. On the right is the Captain's station, which has a comms console, shuttle console, and ID console. The left, the Engineer's station, with an alert console, an AI fixing console, and a connection port for the AI. The glass office has a crew monitor, medical records, security records, and a security camera console. </details> <details> <summary>Central Hallway</summary> Down the stairs from the dining hall is the central hallway. The elevator at the end is still nonfunctional. The area itself is very open, since I removed the central seating/bench divider, as well as the adjacent medical and security offices, both of which have glass doors and windows looking into the hall. The security office has taken the place of the kitchen. Why? While having a full kitchen is cool, the shuttle is only going to have people on it for about five minutes. It's why I decided against putting food on the tables initially, because I expected someone to go and make food. I decided that having a proper brig is better than having a kitchen, as much as I liked the idea of having a kitchen. Anyway, it's a small security office with a holding cell. The infirmary used to be a tiny, 4x4 room with two stasis beds and an enclosed operating room. I've expanded it to include the old dance area, and people can now walk around inside. Because unrestricted airlock exits don't work too well with shuttles, I've added the classic Medbay exit buttons. The emergency surgery room has morphine, along with everything it had before (incl. the neutered combat defib) The portside smoking lounge is mostly unchanged. It now starts with a lighter and two packs of cigarettes, though. </details> <details> <summary>Aft Hallway</summary> The aft hallway is up some stairs behind the central elevator. It has four vending machines, and is otherwise unoccupied, since it's supposed to be a low-traffic area. The old corporate lounge is now the Starlight Lounge, which is more of a relaxation room than anything. The storage rooms are now equipped with assorted equipment. The port storage room is geared towards engineering, while the starboard room is geared more towards survival. It's worth noting that these two rooms are normally the only camera blindspots on the shuttle. </details> <details> <summary>Full Ship</summary> </details> ## Why It's Good For The Game It makes the ship flow better. It does a better job at being a luxurious cruise ship. There are fewer areas that act as chokepoints, allowing freer movement. A 5x7 dancefloor is better than a 4x3 one. It also has around 15 extra seats compared to before. ## Changelog 🆑 map: The NTSS Independence has, once again, been upgraded. Now featuring a proper ballroom, an expanded infirmary, a security office, and much more available seating. fix: Doctor Rumack, the NTSS Independence's resident medibot, is no longer invisible. /🆑
