Heretic Antagonist Full Overhaul. (#92119)
## About The Pull Request Heretic has received a complete overhaul. This PR touches nearly every aspect of the antagonist. For readability's sake, not every change is going to be listed in this pull request. For the full list of changes please refer to the design doc: https://hackmd.io/@BiST8PJVRjiwVPY86U3bLQ/B11HyChz1g. Code by Me, @Xander3359 and @Arturlang TGUI by @Arturlang Sprites by OrcaCora and GregorDM Writing bits by @necromanceranne ### Core changes - Cross-pathing has been removed. Main knowledge spells are now exclusive to their path (for the most part). - For every main knowledge unlocked (save for the robes and the blade upgrade), Heretics can choose one option from a draft of 3 random side knowledges (this is a free point). - Heretics can now purchase side knowledges from a new tab, the "Knowledge Shop". Side-knowledges have been divided by tier (Stealth, Defense, Summons, Combat and Main). Tiers are unlocked as you progress toward your main path. - Heretics now gain the grasp and mark upgrade immediately, but their main knowledge choices cost twice as much (except for the first spell, the robes and the blade upgrade). - Path specific robes have been introduced! They come with their own set of quirks. - Each Path has received a passive ability. This passive is upgraded when you first create your robes, and again when you complete the Ritual of Knowledge. - Paths have been rebalanced as a result of the removal of cross-path progression. Cosmic and Moon paths have received soft reworks. - Upon unlocking the path 2nd level or reaching a total of 8 points worth of knowledge, Heretics will lose the ability to blade break (and the limit on blades all together). - Ascension now automatically calls the shuttle with no possibility of a recall. - Late join Heretic has been removed. ### New UI <img width="750" height="635" alt="moon path ui" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/184ef783-5c9c-48a1-a2f7-4807ca93e990" /> ### Knowledge shop <img width="787" height="669" alt="Knowledge shop" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/3dc89b84-8c70-4d47-b612-54396e3ea6e7" /> ### Quality of life //General balance changes - Heretics will now gain X-ray vision for a few seconds when nearby an eldritch essence (this effect has a cooldown). - Ritual of knowledge now requires 1 uncommon item instead of 2. You may now use a stunprod instead of a baton to complete the ritual. Beartraps have been removed from the list of possible reagents. - The maximum number of possible sacrifices required to ascend has been reduced from 6 to 5 while the minimum has been upped to 4. - Codex Cicatrix no longer requires a special pen to be made. ### Passive abilities - Heretics now start with a passive ability. You can find what it does on the path info tab after a path has been selected, and what they gain when upgraded. - Crafting your first set of Eldritch robes will bump your passive to level 2. - Unlocking the 2nd level will subsequently unlock your "Ritual Of Knowledge" - Completing the ritual of knowledge or ascending will net you the final level. ### Path Specific Robes - Armorer's Ritual is no longer a side knowledge. Each path will have their own unique version of the ritual. This is placed after the 2nd spell in the tree. - Robes can no longer be destroyed by fire and acid, grant t4 flash protection (Moth Heretics stay winning) and protection against basic syringes, to bring them on par with other antagonist's armor sets. - The recipe to craft the robes is now a set of armor/vest, a mask (any mask will do now, not just gas masks), plus the unique reagent required for the blades (Plasma for Cosmic, Trash For Rust, match for Ash and so on) - Wearing the robes as a non-heretic may yield some unfortunate side-effects. ### Moon Path Rework Moon path rework. Moon Heretics gain immunity to brain traumas and slowly regenerate brain health. Equipping the moon amulette channels its effects through the moon blade; making it unblockable and cause sanity damage instead of brute. Ring leader's Rise now summons an army of harmless clones that explode when attacked; the explosion briefly stuns non-heretics and cause sanity and brain damage to them. Moon blade can also now be used when pacified and Moon spells are no longer blocked by regular anti magic, only mind magic protection. **Cosmic Path Rework** Cosmic path has received the biggest batch of changes alongside Moon. The path has been dead last in ascension and pickrate (less than 5%) for almost 2 years. It did gain some popularity over the last few months, reaching the highest ascension rate in the game (12%) while mantaining a relatively low pickrate. Cosmic sits in a weird spot, where pretty much every knowledge surrounding the path is either mediocre or, in the case of the ascension, dysfunctional. Yet it has maintained a smidge of relevancy due to how quickly Cosmic heretics can capture and sacrifice targets thanks to Star Touch. As a result, the best course of action would be to rebalance the entirety of the kit; granting the heretic more tools to manipulate space and dictate the flow of a fight, while lessening their ability to end a confrontation by instantly sleeping their opponents. lastly The Star Gazer is now ghost controlled ; And they shoot lazers! <img width="636" height="451" alt="gazer gag 3" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/601d6881-c042-4e42-8ce6-ac90cd27848b" /> ## Why It's Good For The Game ### Ok...but why do we want this? Again, if you want my full reasoning, please check my doc https://hackmd.io/@BiST8PJVRjiwVPY86U3bLQ/B11HyChz1g. To keep it short and concise; Heretic is too complex and unintuitive for its own good. Too impenetrable for new players and too abusable for experienced players. This can be chalked up to a lot of poor design decisions. But ultimately, what I believe being the biggest contributor to the current status of Heretic is the ability to move into different paths, also known as "Cross-Pathing". ### Cross Pathing my beloathed. Cross-pathing, while cool in theory, overcomplicates the antagonist and overloads them with power. Players dealing with the heretic are incapable of working out what a given heretic can do. This also leads to late game heretics having 3 rows Worth of action buttons and virtually no weakness. Over the last year, I've often received the understandable but also kind of unfair accusations of making Heretic too powerful without a clear aim or purpose. My goal with the paths I've reworked over the last year (Rust,Void and Blade) wasn't necessarily to just make them stronger (although that was also part of the goal, as they were paths that were underperforming), but for them to have more interactions with the sandbox and to better live up to the fantasy presented to the player. If an harbringer of frost gets countered by a cup of coffee, we probably messed something up. Unfortunately, the current incarnation of Heretic doesn't really allow for surgical balance changes to specific paths. Every time a knowledge gets buffed, we make every path that can easily tap onto that knowledge stronger by default. It doesn't take a genius to understand why this system is ultimately unsustainable. ### Blade Breaking I feel that after a heretic has reached the near peak of their power, they no longer need the ability to instantly escape any encounter. Check my doc for my full reasoning. ## Less versatile, more specialized paths. By removing cross-pathing, we remove a huge maintainability burden from the antagonist. Paths can now be designed around clearer strengths and weaknesses. They become easier to balance and less of an headache to understand for everyone. It also means we can give paths some needed quality of life quirks without having to worry how such a change might have a knock-on effect for other paths. Ash heretics can finally let loose without dying by their own flames. Cosmic Heretic can go to space without having to carry a modsuit. Moon Heretic can use their abilities without fear of one random trauma ruining their day, and so on. ### What a horrible night to have a curse...., wait how do I curse people again? As of right now the heretic tree has quite a hefty amount of trinkets that pretty much never see use. Partly because the tree itself is a nightmare to navigate. And partly because why would anyone set up an elaborate plan or scheme when they can unleash 2 rows of spell in the span of bunch of seconds. Heretics mostly gravitate towards powers that push them towards greater, more potent combat strength. If it doesn't contribute to killing people quicker, it isn't worth doing for most. And given the opportunity cost associated for taking those powers, they will remain that way so long as there are better choices to be poached. The new draft system encourages Heretics to play more with the tools at their disposal. If you want to go for a specific combo from the side path options, you may now do so by tapping into the knowledge shop. Yes, the shop does include a few knowledges from the other paths. But these are limited to 1 per path, are very expensive and can only be unlocked very late into the shift. ## Drip Of the Mansus The iconic heretic robe is actually sequestered to a side path that is most easily access by only two paths at a time. Since heretic paths are being made to be much more specialized, the most obvious way in which this can be showcased is through an easily identifiable outfit. By using the robes, we can both telegraph WHAT heretic you are looking at, and just how much power they've accumulated and when it is reasonable to take the kid gloves off and treat them as a genuine threat. If a heretic is in their robes, that heretic is now a significantly more prominent danger to the station. It also serves as a useful means for gating some of the more powerful effects of a heretic's path behind the robes, AND enable options for disarming them of that power should they be captured without making it something endemic to their mob. A major problem with heretics is a lack of certainty as to how powerful they have become. A heretics robes is one of the milestones to help players dealing with heretics identify that. ### Will this be 100% fair and balanced? This is a massive overhaul to a pretty complex and bloated antagonist. I've done my best to show the changes to several maintainers and other members of the community for their feedback. But at some point we'll have to see how this behave in the environment to get a feel if something is over or undertuned. (that's my way of saying, yes this is likely gonna require a testmerge or two). What I will say is that I'm not trying to change the core identity of Heretic. Heretics should have the upperhand in single encounters early on, be able to joust a small group of players after they unlock their final spell, and end the round when they ascend. They're a progression antagonist. They should retain their payoff as well as pose a danger as they grow stronger. But if more players feel like they are more reliably able to play the antagonist in more varied and interesting ways, rather than the antagonist largely existing as a measuring stick for 'robustness' due to its elitist design philosophy, then the rework has been a success. There should be something for everyone in the antagonist, as is true for all of our antagonist roles. |

Adds a furnace that grants space protection to nearby people (#92342)
## About The Pull Request ##### Code bounty for holinka4ever Adds a furnace equippable to the back slot, which when active (it is a lamp), will form a bubble of space protection, affecting the user and people nearby, and will last 5 minutes before it dissipates and needs to be re-formed. This item requires a pyroclastic anomaly core to activate, while the bubble itself can only be formed in pressurized environments. It's researchable in the Anomaly technology node. The downsides of the item is it requires 2 hands to hold, can't be inserted into storage items (as it's bulky), can only be equipped to the bag slot, and has slowdown while on, which only affects you when you're in gravity anyways. ## Why It's Good For The Game The pyro anomaly is currently one of the more useless anomaly cores, not even getting a unique reactive armour variation. This hopefully gives it some purpose as a good tool to keep people alive in a spaced area at a good cost to the user. This is an item that shouldn't be overpowered, but also isn't just a selfish tool- when someone's crafting this item it's specifically aiming to help people, which I think is a benefit. ## Changelog 🆑 JohnFulpWillard, sprites by PopLop add: Added a new pyroclastic anomaly locked item, the Space Furnace. Dynamic Rework (#91290)
## About The Pull Request Implements https://hackmd.io/@tgstation/SkeUS7lSp , rewriting Dynamic from the ground-up - Dynamic configuration is now vastly streamlined, making it far far far easier to understand and edit - Threat is gone entirely; round chaos is now determined by dynamic tiers - There's 5 dynamic tiers, 0 to 4. - 0 is a pure greenshift. - Tiers are just picked via weight - "16% chance of getting a high chaos round". - Tiers have min pop ranges. "Tier 4 (high chaos) requires 25 pop to be selected". - Tier determines how much of every ruleset is picked. "Tier 4 (High Chaos) will pick 3-4 roundstart[1], 1-2 light, 1-2 heavy, and 2-3 latejoins". - The number of rulesets picked depends on how many people are in the server - this is also configurable[2]. As an example, a tier that demands "1-3" rulesets will not spawn 3 rulesets if population <= 40 and will not spawn 2 rulesets if population <= 25. - Tiers also determine time before light, heavy, and latejoin rulesets are picked, as well as the cooldown range between spawns. More chaotic tiers may send midrounds sooner or wait less time between sending them. - On the ruleset side of things, "requirements", "scaling", and "enemies" is gone. - You can configure a ruleset's min pop and weight flat, or per tier. - For example a ruleset like Obsession is weighted higher for tiers 1-2 and lower for tiers 3-4. - Rather than scaling up, roundstart rulesets can just be selected multiple times. - Rulesets also have `min_antag_cap` and `max_antag_cap`. `min_antag_cap` determines how many candidates are needed for it to run, and `max_antag_cap` determines how many candidates are selected. - Rulesets attempt to run every 2.5 minutes. [3] - Light rulesets will ALWAYS be picked before heavy rulesets. [4] - Light injection chance is no longer 100%, heavy injection chance formula has been simplified. - Chance simply scales based on number of dead players / total number off players, with a flag 50% chance if no antags exist. [5] [1] This does not guarantee you will actually GET 3-4 roundstart rulesets. If a roundstart ruleset is picked, and it ends up being unable to execute (such as "not enough candidates", that slot is effectively a wash.) This might be revisited. [2] Currently, this is a hard limit - below X pop, you WILL get a quarter or a half of the rulesets. This might be revisited to just be weighted - you are just MORE LIKELY to get a quarter or a half. [3] Little worried about accidentally frontloading everything so we'll see about this [4] This may be revisited but in most contexts it seems sensible. [5] This may also be revisited, I'm not 100% sure what the best / most simple way to tackle midround chances is. Other implementation details - The process of making rulesets has been streamlined as well. Many rulesets only amount to a definition and `assign_role`. - Dynamic.json -> Dynamic.toml - Dynamic event hijacked was ripped out entirely. - Most midround antag random events are now dynamic rulesets. Fugitives, Morphs, Slaughter Demons, etc. - The 1 weight slaughter demon event is gone. RIP in peace. - There is now a hidden midround event that simply adds +1 latejoin, +1 light, or +1 heavy ruleset. - `mind.special_role` is dead. Minds have a lazylist of special roles now but it's essentially only used for traitor panel. - Revs refactored almost entirely. Revs can now exist without a dynamic ruleset. - Cult refactored a tiny bit. - Antag datums cleaned up. - Pre round setup is less centralized on Dynamic. - Admins have a whole panel for interfacing with dynamic. It's pretty slapdash I'm sure someone could make a nicer looking one.   - Maybe some other things. ## Why It's Good For The Game See readme for more info. Will you see a massive change in how rounds play out? ## About The Pull Request A few places seem to call `hitby` or `throw_impact` without a throwing datum to mimic the effect of colliding with something, which is cringe, but I guess we should support it. Rebalances wound determination values, wounding escalation and wound armor to hopefully be less explosive (#91099)
## About The Pull Request This is a big one so please bear with me, wounds are complicated ### Max Potential Wound Rolls We've decreased the max contributed damage to wound rolls from 35 to 25. This results, after the exponent, a max possible wound roll of 1 to 91 before any modifiers (assuming the attack, after armor, is 25 or above). The minimum value to wound is still 5. ### Wound Escalation Penalties Most wounds were contributing significant numbers per wound type to the potential for a new wound to occur. Getting wounded once meant you were getting wound a lot, but actually getting past that first wounding may be the tricky part. We have significantly reigned in the wound penalty that having a wound contributes, and instead utilize the series wound penalty to allow same type wounds to escalate themselves faster as a priority. Having wounds still makes you more wound vulnerable, just not to such an extreme degree. The priority here for what wounds matter most for contributing to overall wounding vulnerability is ``Infected BURNS > BURNS > SLASH|PIERCE > BLUNT.`` ### Wound Armor Wound armor, unlike all other kinds of armor, was used as a additive value to the wound roll modifiers rather than a multiplicative value. We have reworked how wound armor is determined by changing how wound modifiers are calculated. Firstly, we're passing our entire injury roll into the ``check_woundings_mod()`` proc, as we're not treating this as a proc that just adds values anymore. Secondly, bare wound bonus only applies if there is no potential wound protection from any source, as expected. But it comes last in the calculations. Thirdly, wound protection is applied to the injury roll last, after wound bonuses from the attack, wound bonuses from other wounds and wound bonuses from a disabled limb are applied. This does not include serial wound bonuses, which are determined outside of this proc. Wound protection comes from two sources. Clothing and limb wound resistance. Your chest and head have an amount of wound resistance so long as they are not mangled in any fashion. Being mangled means having either a hairline fracture or a weeping avulsion wound. Wound protection reduces the final injury roll by a percentage. Say our roll is 50, and we have effectively 50% wound protection. The final roll would be 25. ### ~~Wound Armor on Clothing~~ Reverted ~~Most clothing have had their wound armor values changed. As a loose rule, I used the highest of melee or bomb armor, except where that value was 100, in which case I used the lowest instead. I'm basing this decision on how embeds are calculated, which is attack type agnostic.~~ ~~Some armor have inconsistent values because they are alternative armors to an existing armor type or are hyperspecialized armor. Ablative, bulletproof and security vests all share a value of 35, despite the former two not having decent melee or bomb armor.~~ ~~Some clothing missing wound armor that should have had them now have wound armor.~~ ~~This may need a bit of scrutiny in case one or two seem weirdly high. Some have maybe become too low. Its a bit hard to say.~~ ### The ``bare_wound_bonus`` variable I changed it to ``exposed_wound_bonus`` to better represent when it applies. You can be naked and still not be affected by this bonus if the limb has wound resistance. ## Why It's Good For The Game I'm not promising anything with this PR, but this is an attempt to sanity check the values on wounds so that we're not seeing what the data that determined the removal of beheading presented. An extreme over-representation of tier 3 wounds. ~~And, from that, maybe I can argue for beheadings coming back. That's my goal. I think beheadings happened so much because the numbers were in need of work.~~ Well okay I just wanna make wounds a bit more workable actually more than I want beheadings. Why is it that tier 3 wounds were so over-represented? Because wounds will often force more severe wounds of other types by merit of any wounds existing at all on a limb. Having **_a_** wound makes you more wound prone for any kind of wound, and not just making you more likely to suffer a more severe type of the same wound. The threshold mechanic was intended to simulate making a wound worse, but oddly just made a limb broadly more prone to getting worse from any kind of attack to such a degree that future wound rolls of different types were often going to start at the threshold necessary to be a tier 3 wound. Dismemberment, mind you, requires you to suffer a flesh wound while you have a bone wound of tier 2 or higher (with tier 3 giving a bonus to this). You can do this readily via just a sharp weapon, because having a mangled limb causes the wound to turn into a bone wound. Technically, this is meant to be less likely as the effective damage for this wound is halved. But the wound bonus from having a flesh wound was almost always significant enough to kick your new bone wound up to a tier 3. In other words; its not surprising that you saw so many beheadings, because the system wanted to behead you as fast as it possibly can thanks to all these escalating values. Wound armor was only applied as a flat reduction on the roll. The average for wound armor was 10. After receiving a single wound, you can expect wound rolls to reach upwards of 100, even if the actual damage roll was not particularly high, due to wound stacking bonuses form being wounded. This meant that wounds, if they happened, came thick and fast after the first, regardless of what your protection might be to wounds. It was just a matter of getting past the initial bump. This is why effects that forced wounds were so powerful. They basically made a given limb more prone to taking a wound without having to deal with the protection problem first. Finally, this is just a broad flaw with the system that is not its fault. It is actually a problem that isn't a problem. Most people in the game are not wearing helmets that protect their head. So most people are going to suffer from a higher proclivity of being wounded if people are aiming for the head. There is this...kind of cargo cult belief that aiming for the head means you do more damage, or can stun someone if you're lucky or what have you. It's entirely nonsense, but it has a grain of truth in that people rarely wear, or even have access too, headwear that provides wound protection or any protection at all. People have jumpsuits, which are universally wound protected, but that isn't true of the head. Look, the point is, they're not aiming at the head because it is usually less armored, its for other reasons but it just so happens to become true due to wounds and how wounds roll their type. To soften this issue, I've decided to treat wound resistance as armor until the limb suffers a tier 3 wound. This way, hits to the head MAY not necessarily escalate to tier 3 instantly as they would on live even from relatively low power weapons. Some weapons have very low force, but have extreme bare wound bonuses. This should be less likely after this change. I doubt this will necessarily make high damage high wound weapons like energy swords any less prone to cutting you clean open, but it might thanks to the reduction to contributed damage to the injury roll. The system is now _a bit more random_. ## Changelog 🆑 balance: Wounds do not make you as vulnerable to suffering wounds of all types as before. Removes 'thrownby' var on items (#90877)
## About The Pull Request Fully removes thrownby as a var on items, and is now instead handled by throwingdatums' ``get_thrower()`` proc Also replaces the early return for throwing things at yourself (it now only prevents the call for check_block and therefore hit reaction stuff), since the only way to throw things at yourself is with boomerangs, which currently only works because it doesn't pass you as the thrower for boomerang's return Speaking of, boomerangs now see the thrower as thrower on returns Before (Boomerangs don't pass you as the thrower, so it shows you as being hit by nothing):  After (Boomerangs pass you and you can affect yourself, so it sees you hitting yourself & it still batons you):  This is gonna be used for https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/pull/90689 as well. ## Why It's Good For The Game Better logging for boomeranged items, removes a deprecated var and better consistency for thrown items leaving better readability. ## Changelog 🆑 admin: People throwing boomeranged items and hitting themselves now logs it as them hitting themselves (rather than being hit by the air). /🆑 |

The big fix for pixel_x and pixel_y use cases. (#90124)
## About The Pull Request
516 requires float layered overlays to be using pixel_w and pixel_z
instead of pixel_x and pixel_y respectively, unless we want
visual/layering errors. This makes sense, as w,z are for visual effects
only. Sadly seems we were not entirely consistent in this, and many
things seem to have been using x,y incorrectly.
This hopefully fixes that, and thus also fixes layering issues. Complete
1:1 compatibility not guaranteed.
I did the lazy way suggested to me by SmArtKar to speed it up (Runtiming
inside apply_overlays), and this is still included in the PR to flash
out possible issues in a TM (Plus I will need someone to grep the
runtimes for me after the TM period to make sure nothing was missed).
After this is done I'll remove all these extra checks.
Lints will probably be failing for a bit, got to wait for [this
update](

## About The Pull Request Introduces 6 new Heretic Sideknowledges. **Warren King's Welcome:** Starting side-knowledge, Grants to the Heretic's id Maints and External Airlock access. **Phylactery Of Damnation:** T1 Knowledge, located between Imperfect Ritual and Keykeeper's Burden, creates a bottle that can Siphon a small quantity of blood from your victim, (they'll still feel a tiny prick).  **Ether Of The Newborn:** T2 knowledge, replaces Curse Of Paralysis slot in the tree (Inbetween Mark of Madness and Moonlight Amulette).  1 use potion, fully restores the inbiber to full health, removes any sort of affliction,trauma,disease or implant at the cost of knocking the user out for 1 minute. **Codex Morbus:** T3 knowledge, located between Caretaker's Refuge and Ringleader's RIse.   Upgrade of the Codex Cicatrix, draws and siphons runes and essences a bit faster, can be used on a rune to curse a crewmember, provided their blood is on the rune or on the Heretic. **Greaves Of The Prophet:** T3 knowledge, located between Entropic Plume and Wolves Among Sheep.  They work as magical magboots minus the slowdown; they confer full immunity to slips (yes, even space lube). **Rust Sower Grenade:** T2 knowledge, replaces curse of corrosion in the tree (between Aggressive Spread and Star Blast).  Eldritch grenade, Releases a smoke that rusts all affected turfs, blinds whoever doesn't have mask protection and utterly annihilates silicons, mechs, augs and bots. Video Showcase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1GeO7MYFek **New Blade Path Spell: Wolves Among Sheep** Video Showcase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LsmUiQzpzA - Briefly transforms the surrounding the heretic into an arena. - Both The Heretic and Crew members caught inside the spell cannot leave or change z level until the spell expires. - The arena is impassable to outsiders. - Everyone caught inside the spell receives a special buff that makes them immune to most enviromental hazards and all forms of Crowd Control while blocking teleportation. - Non Heretics are granted a temporary Heretic Blade and an antag datum. - Scoring a critical hit grants the winner the ability to leave the arena, Critting the heretic fully dissolves the spell. - Critting yourself doesn't remove the debuff. - The Heretic receives a heal upon critting someone. - Breaking a blade while inside the arena will rip off your arm regardless if you are crew or a Heretic. - 2 minutes cooldown. - Replaces Furious Steel as the last spell unlocked pre-ascension. Lastly as you may have guessed, curses have been completely refactored, they are now bound to the new item (Codex Morbus), are no longer empowered by blood but require it as a reagent. Curse of Corrosion and Paralysis have been rebalanced to be slightly stronger than they were at their base value now that they can no longer be empowered. 2 new curses have be introduced. **Curse Of Indulgence:** tanks the target hunger, makes them a carnivore and drastically increases their hunger decay rate, lasts 8 minutes. **Curse Of Transmogrification:** Allows the Heretic to change the target's Race(minus plasmamen for obvious reasons), lasts until the Codex Morbus is destroyed. Lastly the Blade Heretic tree has been shuffled a bit to introduce the new spell. Stance Of the Torn Champion has been **TEMPORARILY** Removed, it will come back in a later PR. Lore tibids by NecromancerAnne. ## Why It's Good For The Game The following is an atomisation of The Heretic Knowledge Rework I'm currently working on alongside Edge (Heretic's Grandaddy). Given the whole PR was probably going to be impossibly big to review; I asked Melbert If could introduce the new knowledges first, so here we are. Do not stress the locations of these knowledges in the tree; While they do fill what few empty slots we still have, it doesn't change the fact that the Heretic tree is an incomprehensible mess and will soon be reworked. **Warren King's Welcome:** Not having mantainence access as an antag sucks. Arguably it sucks even more for Heretics as they are required to find some place discrete in order to be able to cast their rituals. It's not unusual for the station to be so crowded, that setting up a base in space is the only option, the external access helps with that a little bit. **Phylactery Of Damnation and Codex Morbus** Explaining them in the same paragraph as they are intended to be used together. Curses might as well not exist in their current state. The process of cursing a crewmember is way too machineous, annoying, and nowhere near as affective as simply running to your victim and smacking it with your blade. All Curses have now been bundled to the new Codex, they no longer require X reagents, only a drip of the victim's blood. That's when the phylactery comes into play. Victims still feel "a tiny prick" upon being juiced, so beware. **Ether Of The Newborn:** The point of this knowledge is to serve as a backup plan to "random bullshittery". It's not really fun rolling one bad trauma or disease and have it completely invalidate your Heretic round. We already have potions that either heal or provide remedies against wounds/limb loss, the Ether is supposed to be an extreme solution, hence why it causes a 1 minute sleep upon consumption. **Greaves Of The Prophet:** Heretic to this day is fairly lacking when it comes to passive immunities or tools we grant to most of our core antagonists. Specifically, for a melee-focused antagonist, a total lack of antislip is kinda lame, being one of the most common defense tools employed by the crew against newbie antagonist players. Given these cannot be concealed unlike the traitor counterpart and how far down the tree they are, i felt like making them lube resistant was a unique twist and sensible for what's essentialy our core progression antagonist. **Rust Sower Grenade:** directly inspired by the 40k Blight Grenades. The Rust Sower nades serve a double purpose. 1) They introduce a new form of area Denial available to all heretic paths. 2) They confer to non Rust Heretics a way to deal with the so hated Silicon Menace. I'm of the not-so-unpopular school of thought of "Mechs and Silicons have had it too good for too long". A massive chunk of our threat roster gets to this day completely shut down by mechs. I feel like it was about time to make everything Inorganic feel afraid again. To make it a bit more fair, these grenades have a fairly long detonation timer and have been given a couple of unique SFX. **Wolves Among Sheep** Even after the last batch of Changes, Blade Heretic still felt a bit uninspired to me. The path is still essentialy just about running at people and stabbing them in the face. While that's part of the appreal, I'd reckon it's still lacking a bit on the eldritch side of things. Trapping opponents into an arena when they are forced to either engage you or betray their friends to escape can create some potentially interesting story-telling. It also warps the ,oh, so beloathed stun meta we live in by forcing participants to resort to lethal weaponry. Ultimately, this is supposed to be a high risk/high reward spell, if you trap 5 people arm them with heretic blades, and make them all fully stun immune, you are likely gonna get lynched. Guncode Agony 4: The Great Projectile Purge (#87740)
## About The Pull Request ~~Kept you waitin huh!~~ The projectile refactor is finally here, 4 years later. This PR (almost) completely rewrites projectile logic to be more maintainable and performant. ### Key changes: * Instead of moving by a fixed amount of pixels, potentially skipping tile corners and being performance-heavy, projectiles now use raymarching in order to teleport through tiles and only visually animate themselves. This allows us to do custom per-projectile animations and makes the code much more reliable, sane and maintainable. You (did not) serve us well, pixel_move. * Speed variable now measures how many tiles (if SSprojectiles has default values) a projectile passes in a tick instead of being a magical Kevinz Unit™️ coefficient. pixel_speed_multiplier has been retired because it never had a right to exist in the first place. __This means that downstreams will need to set all of their custom projectiles' speed values to ``pixel_speed_multiplier / speed``__ in order to prevent projectiles from inverting their speed. * Hitscans no longer operate with spartial vectors and instead only store key points in which the projectile impacted something or changed its angle. This should similarly make the code much easier to work with, as well as fixing some visual jank due to incorrect calculations. * Projectiles only delete themselves the ***next*** tick after impacting something or reaching their maximum range. Doing so allows them to finish their impact animation and hide themselves between ticks via animation chains. It is laggy, overcomplicated and absolutely unmaintaineable - while a lot of decisions made sense 4 years ago when we were attempting to introduce pixel movement, nowadays they are only acting as major roadblocks for any contributor who is attempting to make projectile behavior that differs from normal in any way. Void Heretic Rework: You Can (Not) Heat Up. (#85728)
## About The Pull Request Reworks most of the Void Heretic kit. All Void spells now apply a stacking debuff that makes you gradually colder. Void Blast has been replaced with a new spell "Void Conduit" and a new Side knowledge spell, "Void Prison" has been introduced. Waltz At The End Of Time has been completely overhauled. Lastly Void Blade has been resprited along with the overlay of Void Chill, check any of the linked videos to see the new look. All new sprites have been kindly made by OrcaCora. ## Why It's Good For The Game Void path is *Supposedly* themed around the cold of space but doesn't have any tools to live up to the fantasy of being an harbringer of the Void whose main goal is to freeze the station to an icicle. Then there's also the issue of Void being utterly underwhelming compared to his neighbors, Cold is way too easy to treat as a status effect, so much so, a simple cup of coffee can utterly shutdown the void storm, which is just unacceptable. # **Changes** - **Void Chill**: Is now a stacking debuff, each stack slows movement speed by a percentage while lowering body temperature, upon reaching the cap, which is 5 stacks, the victim cannot heat up anymore, all void Spells apply 1 stack of the debuff, with the exception of the grasp applying 5 (2 for the mark and 3 for the detonation) and the blade upgrade applying 2. **Reasoning**: Void chill currently suffers from being completely shutdown by sipping tea, coffee or having the COLD_RESIST trait,with this change you can still negate the damage and the slowdown you get from being cold but not the slowdown from the debuff itself. - **Aristocrat's Way**: Now grants no slip on ice and water tiles on cold or depressurized turfs **Reasoning:** Since the rework revolves around making Void heretic more involved in freezing the station, they should be able to move in their domain without getting punished for it. - **Void Cloak:** Can now be toggled on and off to make the cloak visible or invisible; when the cloak is visible it grants low pressure immunity trait. **Reasoning:** Not having pressure resistance as a Void Heretic just sucks, as you are clearly intended to somewhat go into space at some point; giving it to the cloak is a good compromise since you sacrifice better protection (***the armor values of the cloak are pitiful***) for utility. - **Replaces "Void Blast" with a new spell, "Void Conduit"**. **Void Conduit:** Opens a gate to the Void; it releases an intermittent pulse that damages windows and airlocks and applies a stack of void chill to non heretics, Heretics are granted the low pressure resistance trait. **Reasoning**: I like the idea behind Void Blast; unfortunately, the spell has limited uses if an area isn't already spaced, which is hard to do considering the current kit of Void Heretic doesn't provide anything to help in that regard. I wanted to give Void Heretic a tool to turn any area of their choosing into their ideal habitat. Not amazing for quick assassinations, good if you are anticipating a fight or want to simply expand your domain, the added Trait might seem redundant, but let's not forget that the void cloak is still a side knowledge, I don't want newbie heretics to space an area and accidentally killing themselves because of it. Video Demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhPdj1hIgSI - **New side knowledge: "Void Prison."** **Void Prison:** It makes the target invulnerable and unable to do anything for 10 seconds , when the spell ends, it applies a few stacks of void chill, cannot be self-cast. It occupies the same slot of Blood Siphon (inbetween Raw Ritual and Void Phase.) Video Demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKZd8aEcZFw **Reasoning**: Void is technically meant to be an assassination path and not really apt at tackling multiple opponents, this spell might come into clutch if you are outnumbered, or simply want some breathing room from your pursuers. - **Void Jaunt and Void Pull** Cooldown respectively reduced to 25 and 30 seconds, down from 30 and 40. **Reasoning:** I felt that the cooldown on these was a bit too high overall; as it stands, Void Phase cooldown is twice as long as Ashen passage, one of the best and arguably most sidepathed spells in the game. Granted phase is faster and has more range but I don't think it justifies its cooldown being this long. Void pull could also use slightly less cooldown, being the very last spell you unlock and offering a simple melee knockdown. - **Seeking Blade:** Now applies 2 stacks of void chill per hit. **Reasoning:** Seeking blade is a bit underwhelming for being the final blade upgrade, teleporting to a target you just stunned at melee range is incredibly niche, now that Void chill is a stacking debuff we can probably just slap it on the blade itself. - **Waltz At The End Of Time:** The Heretic becomes weightless and able to levitate around, (carp movement essentialy). The heavy storm is no longer bound to the room the heretic is in but is now an aura around them, this does a few things. 1) Releases a pulse that depressurizes areas, shatters windows, airlocks and firelocks, and applies a stack of void chill to non heretics, the passive burn and oxy damage effect has been removed. 2) Grants to the Heretic projectile deflection. **Reasoning:** Void Has the reputation of having the weakest ascension in the game, which it's hard to disagree on considering you can completely neutralize the effects of the storm by simply sipping tea and how generally little it does overall. It's also kind of strange that you have this massive Eldritch storm ravaging the station and for it to have no effects on its atmosphere, infrastructure, or projectiles whatsoever. Wallening [IDB IGNORE] [MDB IGNORE] (#85491)
## What's going on here Kept you waitin huh! This pr resprites most all walls, windows and other "wall adjacent" things to a 3/4th perspective, technical term is "tall" walls (we are very smart). If you're trying to understand the technical details here, much of the "rendering tech" is built off the idea of split-vis. Basically, split a sprite up and render it on adjacent turfs, to prevent seeing "through" walls/doors, and to support seeing "edges" without actually seeing the atom itself. Most of the rest of it is pipelining done to accommodate how icons are cut. ## Path To Merge Almost* all sprites and code is done at this point. There are some things missing both on and off the bounty list, but that will be the case forever unless we force upstream (you guys) to stop adding new shit that doesn't fit the style. I plan on accepting and integrating prs to the current working repo <https://github.com/wall-nerds/wallening> up until a merge, to make contribution simpler and allow things like bounties to close out more easily This pr is quite bulky, even stripping away map changes it's maybe 7000 LOC (We have a few maps that were modified with UpdatePaths, I am also tentatively pring our test map, for future use.) This may inhibit proper review, although that is part of why I am willing to make it despite my perfectionism. Apologies in advance. Due to the perspective shift, a lot of mapping work is going to need to be done at some point. This comes in varying levels of priority. Many wallmounts are offset by hand, some are stuck in the wall/basically cannot be placed on the east/west/north edges of walls (posters), some just don't look great good in their current position. Tests are currently a minor bit yorked, I thought it was more important to get this up then to clean them fully. ## What does it look like?       ## Credits <details> <summary>Historical Mumbojumbo</summary> I am gonna do my best to document how this project came to be. I am operating off third party info and half remembered details, so if I'm wrong please yell at me. This project started sometime in late 2020, as a product of Rohesie trying to integrate and make easier work from Mojave Sun (A recently defunct fallout server) with /tg/. Mojave Sun (Apparently this was LITERALLY JUST infrared baron, that man is insane) was working with tall walls, IE walls that are 48px tall instead of the normal 32. This was I THINK done based off a technical prototype from aao7 proving A it was possible and B it didn't look like dogwater. This alongside oranges begging the art team for 3/4th walls (he meant TGMC style) lead to Rohesie bringing on contributors from general /tg/, including actionninja who would eventually take over as technical lead and Kryson, who would define /tg/'s version of the artstyle. Much of the formative aspects of this project are their work. The project was coming along pretty well for a few months, but ran into serious technical issues with `SIDE_MAP`, a byond map_format that allows for simpler 3/4th rendering. Due to BULLSHIT I will not detail here, the map format caused issues both at random with flickering and heavily with multiz. Concurrent with this, action stepped down after hacking out the rendering tech and starting work on an icon cutter that would allow for simpler icon generation, leaving ninjanomnom to manage the project. Some time passed, and the project stalled out due to the technical issues. Eventually I built a test case for the issues we had with `SIDE_MAP` and convinced lummox jr (byond's developer) to explain how the fuckin thing actually worked. This understanding made the project theoretically possible, but did not resolve the problems with multi-z. Resolving those required a full rework of how rendering like, worked. I (alongside tattle) took over project development from ninjanomnom at this time, and started work on Plane Cube (#69115), which when finished would finally make the project technically feasible. The time between then and now has been slow, progressive work. Many many artists and technical folks have dumped their time into this (as you can see from the credits). I will get into this more below but I would like to explicitly thank (in no particular order) tattle, draco, arcanemusic, actionninja, imaginos, viro and kylerace for keeping the project alive in this time period. Basic Guardians/Holoparasites (#79473)
## About The Pull Request Fixes #79485 Fixes #77552 Converts Guardians (aka Holoparasites) into Basic Mobs. Changes a bunch of their behaviours into actions or components which we can reuse. Replaces some verbs it would give to you and hide in the status panel with action buttons that you may be able to find more quickly. They _**should**_ work basically like they did before but a bit smoother. It is not unlikely that I made some changes by accident or just by changing framework though. My one creative touch was adding random name suggestions. The Wizard federation have a convention of naming their arcane spirit guardians by combining a colour and a major arcana of the tarot. The Syndicate of course won't truck with any of that mystical claptrap and for their codenames use the much more sensible construction of a colour and a gamepiece. This lets you be randomly assigned such creative names as "Sparkling Hermit", "Bloody Queen", "Blue World", or "Purple Diamond". You can of course still ignore this entirely and type "The Brapmaster" into the box if so desired. I made _one_ other intentional change, which is to swap to Mothblocks' nice leash component instead of instantly teleporting guardians back to you when they are pulled out of the edge of their range. They should now be "dragged" along behind you until they can't path, at which point they will teleport. This should make the experience a bit less disorienting, you have the recall button if you _want_ to instantly catch up. This is unfortunately a bumper-sized PR because it did not seem plausible to not do all of it at once, but I can make a project branch for atomisation if people think this is too much of a pain in the ass to review. Other changes: - Some refactoring to how the charge action works so I could individually override "what you can hit" and "what happens when you hit" instead of those being the same proc - Lightning Guardian damage chain is now a component - Explosive Guardian explosive trap is now a component - Added even more arguments to the Healing Touch component to allow it to heal tox/oxy damage and require a specific click modifier - Life Link component which implements the Guardian behaviour of using another mob as your health bar - Moved some stuff about deciding what guardians look and are described like into a theming datum - Added a generic proc which can return whether your mob is meant to apply some kind of damage multiplier to a certain damage type. It's not perfect because I couldn't figure out how ot cram limb modifiers in there, which is where most of it is on carbons. Oh well. - Riders of vehicles now inherit all movement traits of those vehicles, so riding a charging holoparasite will let you cross chasms. Also works if you piggyback someone with wings, probably. ## Changelog 🆑 refactor: Guardians/Powerminers/Holoparasites now use the basic mob framework. Please report any unexpected changes or behaviour. qol: The verbs used to communicate with, recall, or banish your Guardian are now action buttons. balance: If (as a Guardian) your host moves slightly out of range you will now be dragged back into range if possible, rather than being instantly teleported to them. balance: Protectors now have a shorter leash range rather than a longer one, in order to more easily take advantage of their ability to drag their charge out of danger. balance: Ranged Guardians can now hold down the mouse button to fire automatically. balance: People riding vehicles or other mobs now inherit all of their movement traits, so riding a flying mob (or vehicle, if we have any of those) will allow you to cross chasms and lava safely. /🆑 --------- Co-authored-by: san7890 <the@san7890.com> |

Attempts to fix an issue with gravity generators triggering CI failures (#76764)
## About The Pull Request #76730 continuation, but I think I have found the actual source of the bug. EDIT: Just kidding, that turned out to not be it either. The issue: During init, when the gravity generator is being set up and creating its proximity field, a turf can get the `COMSIG_ATOM_HAS_GRAVITY` signal registered to it multiple times. It seems like it shouldn't be possible for this to happen due to the `HAS_TRAIT(TRAIT_FORCED_GRAVITY)` check, but it can. I've only seen this happen during CI and have not been able to reproduce it during runtime, but it comes up often enough to be a nuisance when testing PRs. As seen below, causing CI failures. The problem turf is directly below the `gravity_generator/main` object.  I spent too much time trying to figure out the cause of this duped signal when it really does not matter if this signal gets overridden here, since it's always going to be from the same proximity field. Suppressing the warning will stop the CI failures without any ill effects in this case. Replaces lava and chasm's "safeties" and ignoring turf slowdown on catwalks with traits and a new element. (#76376)
## About The Pull Request This adds a new element for movables that grants turfs they're in traits, changes lava and the chasm component to check for traits instead, ditto for turf slowdown. It also implements another trait that prevents wet floor from slipping people, as well as some other changes (feel free to opine on them really): - Tables and conveyor belts now stop turf slowdown, much like catwalks, as I imagine people walking on them are not really touching the floor. (I'd include protection against lava too... until they melt, but that'd mean finding a way to have these objects burn in the first place, and lava code is still stupid despite a years old refactor I did) - Tables also stop slippery turfs from slipping (bananas, soaps etc. still apply). I wish there were a way to make some objects slippery by coating them in water vapor or splashing water/lube, but that's outside the scope of this PR. - Fixed an edge case in which a mob standing on a lava turf would be left permanently visually on fire if the lava is changed to another kind of turf. - Removed unused code from stone tiles. ## About The Pull Request
This PR is a re-pr of ##70522 , with some tweaks:
Notably:
- Wavespeak is not a say override, but instead uses a mindlink. Meaning
carp and space dragons can still talk verbally, but they can also use
telepathy to talk to all carp and the dragon.
- I would refactor Mind Linker a bit further to be a full datum rather
than a component but that's for another time.
- Removed the gravity aura component in favor of using the existing
forced gravity proximity monitor.
- Also fixed a bug involving that. Lol.
- Minor refactoring around the place.
- Reduced the volume on a lot of space dragon sounds.
- Edited the roundend report for Space Dragons to collate all entries
into one per player.

## Why It's Good For The Game
Space dragon still plays pretty "play lame win game" right now, the
optimal strategy for them is to find the cheesiest spot for a portal and
spam their stun / fire breath to make it unreachable.
I was a fan of the original PR so I updated it and brought it back.

Lots of new things included: - New basketball minigame that can be played between 2-7 players - Crafting recipe for basketballs using leather sheets - Crafting recipe for basketball hoops using metal, rods, and durathread - New basketball sounds for the ball and hoops - New scorecard that can be reset using CtrlClick - Basketball hoops can be rotated using a wrench and AltClick - Dunking and shooting animations. ### New basketball mechanics that now utilize stamina: - Dunking costs large stamina and you must be directly adjacent to the hoop and click on it. - Shooting costs medium stamina and uses RMB. Shooting lets you aim the ball over peoples heads, meaning anyone obstructing your path will be bypassed. There is a half second delay during shooting where someone can bump or push to prevent the shot from succeeding. - Shooting from further away results in less accuracy. If you do not click directly on the hoop, there is also an accuracy penalty! - Passing costs no stamina and uses LMB. Trying to score into the hoop via passing results in a reduced chance. - Spinning costs medium stamina while holding the ball. It gives a reduced chance for the ball to be stolen but decreases accuracy for shooting. - Pushing a player using RMB will attempt to steal the ball and drain their stamina. - The chance to steal the ball is based on the stamina of both players and the direction they are facing. If the person with the ball is at low stamina, and the person stealing is at full stamina, they will have a higher chance. Likewise, if the person with the ball is face to face with the stealer, then there is a higher chance for the ball to be stolen. If the person has their back to the stealer, then it's a lower chance. - Shooting from more than 2 tiles away, results in 3 points. Implements AddTraits and RemoveTraits procs for adding/removing multiple traits + swag unit test (#74037)
On the tin, doing it like this means we can reduce our overall line fingerprint whenever we have to add two or more traits from the same source on the same target. Especially helps when we get to the 4+ range of traits, a breath of fresh air even. Doesn't mean we have to do for loops, as that's already handled within the define as well. I replaced some of the checks with `length()` checks, let me know if I should switch it over to something else (maybe `islist()`)? We stack_trace whenever we're not passed a list reference on purpose, and sometimes var/lists are null by default (or just empty, making this redundant). ## Why It's Good For The Game I commonly feel the urge to write "use `AddTraits()`" or something in reviews, then am sad when I remember it doesn't exist. I will no longer be sad. Can ensure a lot more trait safety as well by using static lists- when both ADD_TRAIT_LIST and REMOVE_TRAIT_LIST re-use the same list, you are confident (from a static point of view) that everything that you want to be adding/removing works. I may have missed a few things where this could be used, but both macros implemented in this PR still use the same framework that was being used in the last four years- so stuff won't break if left untouched. Audits usage of isanimal() vs isanimal_or_basic_mob() (#74029)

I decided to just go through every instance of `isanimal` or `subtypesof(mob/living/simple_animal)` I could find, identify which should also affect basic mobs, and fix them. As far as I can tell all of these things _should_ have effected basic mobs, but didn't. This fixes a fair number of bugs but also they're bugs that nobody noticed or reported. 515 Compatibility (#71161)
Makes the code compatible with 515.1594+
Few simple changes and one very painful one.
Let's start with the easy:
* puts call behind `LIBCALL` define, so call_ext is properly used in 515
* Adds `NAMEOF_STATIC(_,X)` macro for nameof in static definitions since
src is now invalid there.
* Fixes tgui and devserver. From 515 onward the tmp3333{procid} cache
directory is not appened to base path in browser controls so we don't
check for it in base js and put the dev server dummy window file in
actual directory not the byond root.
* Renames the few things that had /final/ in typepath to ultimate since
final is a new keyword
And the very painful change:
`.proc/whatever` format is no longer valid, so we're replacing it with
new nameof() function. All this wrapped in three new macros.
`PROC_REF(X)`,`TYPE_PROC_REF(TYPE,X)`,`GLOBAL_PROC_REF(X)`. Global is
not actually necessary but if we get nameof that does not allow globals
it would be nice validation.
This is pretty unwieldy but there's no real alternative.
If you notice anything weird in the commits let me know because majority
was done with regex replace.

Multiz Rework: Human Suffering Edition (Contains PLANE CUBE) (#69115)
About The Pull Request I've reworked multiz. This was done because our current implementation of multiz flattens planes down into just the openspace plane. This breaks any effects we attach to plane masters (including lighting), but it also totally kills the SIDE_MAP map format, which we NEED for wallening (A major 3/4ths resprite of all wall and wall adjacent things, making them more then one tile high. Without sidemap we would be unable to display things both in from of and behind objects on map. Stupid.) This required MASSIVE changes. Both to all uses of the plane var for reasons I'll discuss later, and to a ton of different systems that interact with rendering. I'll do my best to keep this compact, but there's only so much I can do. Sorry brother. Core idea OK: first thing. vis_contents as it works now squishes the planes of everything inside it down into the plane of the vis_loc. This is bad. But how to do better? It's trivially easy to make copies of our existing plane masters but offset, and relay them to the bottom of the plane above. Not a problem. The issue is how to get the actual atoms on the map to "land" on them properly. We could use FLOAT_PLANE to offset planes based off how they're being seen, in theory this would allow us to create lens for how objects are viewed. But that's not a stable thing to do, because properly "landing" a plane on a desired plane master would require taking into account every bit of how it's being seen, would inherently break this effect. Ok so we need to manually edit planes based off "z layer" (IE: what layer of a z stack are you on). That's the key conceit of this pr. Implementing the plane cube, and ensuring planes are always offset properly. Everything else is just gravy. About the Plane Cube Each plane master (except ones that opt out) is copied down by some constant value equal to the max absolute change between the first and the last plane. We do this based off the max z stack size detected by SSmapping. This is also where updates come from, and where all our updating logic will live. As mentioned, plane masters can choose to opt out of being mirrored down. In this case, anything that interacts with them assuming that they'll be offset will instead just get back the valid plane value. This works for render targets too, since I had to work them into the system as well. Plane masters can also be temporarily hidden from the client's screen. This is done as an attempt at optimization, and applies to anything used in niche cases, or planes only used if there's a z layer below you. About Plane Master Groups BYOND supports having different "maps" on screen at once (IE: groups of items/turfs/etc) Plane masters cannot cover 2 maps at once, since their location is determined by their screen_loc. So we need to maintain a mirror of each plane for every map we have open. This was quite messy, so I've refactored it (and maps too) to be a bit more modular. Rather then storing a list of plane masters, we store a list of plane master group datums. Each datum is in charge of the plane masters for its particular map, both creating them, and managing them. Like I mentioned, I also refactored map views. Adding a new mapview is now as simple as newing a /atom/movable/screen/map_view, calling generate_view with the appropriate map id, setting things you want to display in its vis_contents, and then calling display_to on it, passing in the mob to show ourselves to. Much better then the hardcoded pattern we used to use. So much duplicated code man. Oh and plane master controllers, that system we have that allows for applying filters to sets of plane masters? I've made it use lookups on plane master groups now, rather then hanging references to all impacted planes. This makes logic easier, and prevents the need to manage references and update the controllers. image In addition, I've added a debug ui for plane masters. It allows you to view all of your own plane masters and short descriptions of what they do, alongside tools for editing them and their relays. It ALSO supports editing someone elses plane masters, AND it supports (in a very fragile and incomplete manner) viewing literally through someone else's eyes, including their plane masters. This is very useful, because it means you can debug "hey my X is yorked" issues yourself, on live. In order to accomplish this I have needed to add setters for an ungodly amount of visual impacting vars. Sight flags, eye, see_invis, see_in_dark, etc. It also comes with an info dump about the ui, and plane masters/relays in general. Sort of on that note. I've documented everything I know that's niche/useful about our visual effects and rendering system. My hope is this will serve to bring people up to speed on what can be done more quickly, alongside making my sin here less horrible. Most of the time this is really simple. When a plane var is set, we need to provide some spokesperson for the appearance's z level. We can use this to derive their z layer, and thus what offset to use. This is just a lot of gruntwork, but it's occasionally more complex. Sometimes we need to cache a list of z layer -> effect, and then use that. Also a LOT of updating on z move. So much z move shit. Oh. and in order to make byond darkness work properly, I needed to add SEE_BLACKNESS to all sight flags. This draws darkness to plane 0, which means I'm able to relay it around and draw it on different z layers as is possible. fun darkness ripple effects incoming someday I also need to update mob overlays on move. I do this by realiizing their appearances, mutating their plane, and then readding the overlay in the correct order. The cost of this is currently 3N. I'm convinced this could be improved, but I've not got to it yet. It can also occasionally cause overlays to corrupt. This is fixed by laying a protective ward of overlays.Copy in the sand, but that spell makes the compiler confused, so I'll have to bully lummy about fixing it at some point. Behavior changes We've had to give up on the already broken gateway "see through" effect. Won't work without managing gateway plane masters or something stupid. Not worth it. So instead we display the other side as a ui element. It's worse, but not that bad. Because vis_contents no longer flattens planes (most of the time), some uses of it now have interesting behavior. The main thing that comes to mind is alert popups that display mobs. They can impact the lighting plane. I don't really care, but it should be fixable, I think, given elbow grease. Ah and I've cleaned up layers and plane defines to make them a bit easier to read/reason about, at least I think. This refactors the antimagic component to use and have bitflags, documentation, defines, code comments, named arguments, and renames variable names for clarity. - /obj/effect/proc_holder/spell/aoe_turf/conjure/creature/cult is not used anywhere and has been removed - /obj/effect/proc_holder/spell/targeted/turf_teleport/blink/cult is not used anywhere and has been removed - New sound effects are played when magic is blocked. Depending on the type of magic being used it will be either: - Equipping antimagic now properly updates the magic buttons - Any magic being blocked or restricting casting now displays a message - MAGIC_RESISTANCE_MIND now properly blocks telepathy effects - Removes blood splatter when fireball is blocked - Magic projectiles for staff of locker no longer spawn lockers when blocked by antimagic - Fire breath is no longer blocked by antimagic - Spellcards are now blocked by antimagic Any antimagic on a mob blocks that magic type from being casted. Adds a movement looping system, replaces inbuild procs and spacedrift with it (#62567)
* Adds a subsystem to handle automated directional movement, replaces all instances of walk_towards with it. Makes meteors and immovable rods not drift in space, and makes immovable rods more destructive. Note, I've opted not to use byond's method of moving towards something, which is effectively Move(src, get_step(src, get_dir(src, target))) as it's cringe and doesn't make a smooth line. proximity monitors cleanup (plus connect_range and connect_containers components) (#62755)
I'm refactoring proximity monitors and fields, removing lots of bloat from both that's hardly even used. Proximity monitors no longer generate effect objects to track the surrounding area, should be less cpu expensive and easier to maintain (or phase out), read and use. This PR also adds a couple components which may be needed for future stuff (for starters, the mirror reflection PR #62638 could use the connect_range comp) Improving old old, ugly old code and adding some useful backend components. Tested and working. |
